Sure, that's an oversimplification of the following commentary, but not terribly far afield from its gist. Some funny commentary. Some bad language. And also (I think), a persuasive case against the persistence hunting theory, the notion that our primitive ancestors ran long distances, so as to exhaust their prey:

Not sure where or when I discovered that blog but I have been following it ever since. He is more focused on powerlifting which I am still pretty much a novice in and I learn a lot from his posts. His diet is also pretty insane, not sure what he is calling it these days.

I had assumed it was Paleo-like. But there are copious reference to meat-eating in his posts. So, perhaps his diet would have Paleos running, screaming from the room.

I did drop a comment on Martin Rooney's T-Nation article today. I'm a little suspicious of arguments-from-the-primitive. I doubt that primitive men engaged in anything remotely close to 9 to 15 powerlifting workouts a week. Although the argument against long-distance running made sense to me.

His diets are some sort of Keto based diet. I think he basically just drinks shakes all day and then has one high fat high protein meal for dinner, specifically meat on a bone that you preferably eat with your hands. He does that for a week to two weeks then goes on a rampage to replenish carbs.

I believe that is the gist of it.

Havent been on T-Nation today but I am totally skeptical of all the primal/paleo stuff.

I am too, especially now that they've discovered that the original Paleos wouldn't make very good Paleos today.

Also see my 'food +influence' post.

let me tell you something----the BEST experience in a Museum I ever had was in Bolzano Italy....because they have s SPECIAL museum dedicated to ONE man---Otzi.

Otzi lived around 3300 BC---and was murdered.
HIGH HIGH up in the alps.
In fact he was left in the snow and was soon covered by ice---for THOUSANDS of years, well preserved. He was found in 1991 and now a museum has him on display.

We know what he ate that day, we have his shoes, his bow, his medicines, arrrows, etc etc.

So here was a FIT man in his 40s, eating well we presume (by that I mean no fast food), organic, local food, etc etc.

And very active---climbing to over 9000 feet at time of his murder (arrow). weighing about 110-120 lbs at 5'3''

    Now--guess what??

He had atherosclerosis---ALOT of it---primitive diet, organic, active, and guess what???
    severe atherosclerosis....

What I'm telling food fanatics these days: as soon as you accept that you're going to die, and that you cannot guarantee yourself an extra day, THEN you can start living. THEN you will eat the foods you enjoy.

I found that I didn't agree with much of what he is saying beyond the existence of a mental component. But we've had that for breakfast, lunch and dinner, so to speak.

So, to employ the sort of language that Jamie seems to appreciate, I think that people ought to eat the f*** out of whatever they want because we're all going to f***ing die.

Add to that that if the hulking Neanderthals were still around they'd sure as f*** be eating Zebra Cakes.

Exactly. I tend to eat healthy. But that does not mean I don't eat meat and other supposedly "bad" foods. We have to be realistic that the modern world will give us processed yet safe foods to eat. We also have to accept that we have supplements. Just eat what you like and listen to your body. Your body will tell you if you are eating too much.

I agree! Funny how my friends always say that they're all going to die anyway so why bother stopping themselves from eating food that do not benefit their health.

I wish I knew more people like your friends. Most people I speak with, especially women, are obsessed with, almost paralyzed by food choices. It's either "I try to eat healthy" or "I know I need to eat healthier."

Maybe it's because they know I'm a fitness trainer and they feel the need to audition for me. It's like when I was a pastor and people used to apologize for using profanity in my presence.
