    Here's an excellent article on the evolution of the GOP, post-WWII.

    Overhyped fat white liberal lawyers DOMINATE both parties. Been that way forever.

    If so, they still have to sway their constituents to vote for them. The article addresses how the GOP went about doing this. It's an excellent read.

    Chomp, please explain to us how the democratic party has helped minorities. The Poverty rate is higher than ever isn't it? And the war on poverty...has it been won or lost? With 50 M on food stamps and 75% of all black children born out of wedlock, please explain how liberal policies of any kind do anything other than destroy families, self esteem and initiative.

    I know. I should not use facts and statistics to make my case as all of it is "anecdotal".

    Odd that whenever a poster links an article it's always with the tag of "this guy nails it". Or something along those lines.

    Funny how no one ever links an article with which they disagree to foster debate and comment.

    Sorry, son, everything in the article is ancient history. Does not mention anything about anything beyond the early 1970's. Republican racism was my grandfather's problem, not mine. My grandfather is dead, by the way (and he was a racist throughout most of his life). I don't spend any more time apologizing for his ignorance any more than Elizabeth Warren spends time apologizing for her ancestors herding up Indians and forcing them to march to Oklahoma (while she maintained a fake Indian story that propelled her career to the greatest of heights).

    The republican party of 2013 is the party of opportunity for honest, hard-working people of all races. The republican party is the party of grownups, who understand fiscal responsibility. The democrat party is the one trying to stir up imaginary slights against blacks and other minorities, while enslaving them with government benefits that they lose once they become successful, hard-working Americans. Democrats have provided a safety net so vast, that it has become a spider's web for most of the people who allow themselves to be ensnared in it. The War on Poverty started under LBJ, and it's been failing ever since. Democrats are for poor people who don't want to work, and for the government employees who cater to them in the biggest and most wasteful bureaucracy in history. The democrats are the party of fiscal ignorance and foolishness, in denial that their policies are pushing us ever closer to becoming the next Greece.

    Chomp. Quote from LBJ to two governors on Air Force One after passing the Great Society which provided food stamps, subsidized housing, AFDC and free health care.

    I’ll have those n*ggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years.” — Lyndon B. Johnson to two governors on Air Force One according Ronald Kessler’s Book, “Inside The White House

    First of all, I enjoy history and thought others on here would, too. I just find it interesting to see where the GOP's roots can be found and why the GOP continues to be the dominate party in the South.

    This is the fact-free conserva-bubble in full effect. It's why they can't win national elections.

    They are so deeply invested in this alternate reality that they can't see any other worldview.

    republican's seem to get quite defensive with this term "the white man's party", yet their party intentionally sought out a strategy that made this outcome a reality

    this will not change anytime soon as the far right fringe, who have been given a mainstream voice, have alienated just about everyone but themselves.

    No more/less defensive than the democrats seem to get when they are referred to as the American Communist Party, yet they too promote programs which can only be described as Communist-like.

    Until the GOP becomes a party of doing something positive for the American people instead of one that just blames everyone that doesn't look like them for all the world's ills, they will be stuck in the electoral mud.

    Yes, Obama beat two flawed Rep nominees and Dems control majority in Senate. But, isn't this "electoral mud" you are positing overblown given the Reps -

    -hold and will likely increase its majority in the House (the most representative body in Fed gov't);
    -are likely to gain a tie or majority in Senate in 2014;
    -hold 30+ governorships; and
    -hold majority in 30+ state legislatures.

    Reps may lose big time in the places that you think matter (NY, CA, MA, etc.), but they seem to be doing pretty well in most other places. Of course, that's your proof that Reps are so out of touch/racist/homophobic/etc. What an interesting world you live in. . .
