Every year it’s fun for me to see how my family is represented in the NCAA tournament and find it interesting how others on GC are represented. So, how many schools did your family, by blood or marriage, either attend or work at (figuring working at is a direct connection)? I know there will be other threads about who we root for besides the Gators, but for this thread I’d love to see direct connections. Mine are the following, which is one short of my personal record the first Gator championship year:

    FLORIDA – me
Stephen F. Austin – wife, niece
    Colorado – brother, sister-in-law
    Ohio State – son
    Kansas – wife’s uncle, a couple cousins
Cal Poly – wife’s cousin (had to look up which Cal Poly it is)
    Texas - dad

There might be a Wichita State among my wife's Kansas relatives, but I haven't confirmed it yet. It does look likely the Gators could well play my wife's school. I'll gladly sleep on the couch for that one!

    How about your family?

Me: Florida, Kansas (MA), kind of Colorado (a year in a PhD program there)
    Dad: Eastern Kentucky
    Sister: Kansas
    Step-Dad: Missouri

I've been looking forward to a Kansas-Florida tournament game for years, but things keep coming up to prevent that.

Florida- both sides were born and lived no more than 30 miles from UF and worked or graduated from UF in the last 100 years. Looks like I only have one team. :) I do have a son that is going to USF because he did not get into UF. "don't even get me started" but even he is a Gator fan.

Me UF. One brother and both sisters graduated from Sewannee. Brother is all Gator, but my sisters both married Bulldogs. One has converted, the other is still a loyal Gator and doesn't speak to him when UF and UGA play.

Youngest brother went to West Point undergrad and got his masters at UF. He's a Gator all the way.

No one to date has sent kids to UF. Only three left. So far it's been Auburn, Furman, Charleston, Ole Miss, Clemson, UGA and Wake Forest. Next one up will probably go to art school. My youngest brother has already told his kids they will go to UF and I'm sure they will. Their parents met in grad school at UF the year we won our first football NS.

Mom passed away three years ago. She was a UF grad and a Gator all her life, as was her brother, both breaking an exclusive, decades-long loyalty to Bama. Recently deceased Bama AD Mal Moore was her cousin.

Dad graduated from Colgate, but made friends with a bunch of ex Gator football players in the Marines. Began attending UF games during flight school in Pensacola. That's where he met my mom. Gator all the way.

Wife graduated from Emory. She's a Gator now, just doesn't have a clue about sports.

My son attends the Illinois Institute of Technology. Don't know if they even have basketball. His twin sister attends Boston University. They have a team, but she's never been to a game. He loves the Gators in concept, but knows nothing about sports. She played volleyball and basketball and has been hardcore for Gator hoops. Doesn't even follow Gator football.

In short, there is only one family team in the tournament. Just the way it should be.

One of my daughters was accepted at SFU but went somewhere else. Just picked up my wife from the airport. She was so excited Stephen F is in the tournament. She said she started receiving texts about it as soon as she landed and turned her phone on. She was bummed when I said the Gators could play them early, because for years she has rooted for the Gators and she won't root against them, especially this year. But at least they would have to pull off two upsets to get that far, and that would be an accomplishment.

My wife confirmed she has cousins who went to Wichita State, so our eight teams in equals the year of the first Gator championship. Got to be a good sign!

Mom graduated from the UW system, but not UWM.

Just forgot one. My best friend from 5th grade through high school was a hard core Gator fan. He kind of came apart his senior year in high school, dealing drugs, breaking into houses and finally dropped out. I cut him off when I thought he broke into my house and stole my brother's guitar. Totally lost track of him, then found out that his mom (was living with his dad and step mom) in Kansas City came and got him, cleaned him up and got him into school at Wichita State. He ended up graduating with honors in aerospace engineering and went on to have a fantastic career in the Houston area. We reconnected and he was the best man in my wedding. Not sure who he would be pulling for, probably the Gators, but he died of an inoperable brain tumor four years ago. I know he was really into the Gators while the '04s were around. Never saw him wearing Wichita State colors.
