Hey, it worked for Reagan.
The US spends on average 167% more than the rest of the developed countries of the world do on health care, who by the way, all provide universal coverage with similar health and patient satisfaction stats. If you remove medicare and medicaid from the federal budget, we don't have a budgetary problem in the short, middle, or long term -Nada, nothing, bupkas. Cure american health care costs and you resolve all our federal budget issues, let alone, a lot of family budgets.
Detroit's demise was a result of a company town whose company collapsed.
WW2 was the biggest government spending program in history, and if you look at GDP, the US economy was growing steadily from 1933-1937 when FDR and Congress caught balanced budget fever, after which it continued it's growth.
Row, all these countries who you claim "all provide universal coverage with similar health and patient satisfaction stats."
Who are they? What are their populations? I'm familiar with both Canada and the UK and both their systems suck, compared to what the majority of us have access to in the US.
Throw a dart at continent in the western world and then Japan.
OK, you named Japan. What European countries?
And I am unfamiliar with Japan's HC plan or satisfaction ratings...perhaps those docs who have read up on their situation can shed info. And I'm quite sure their demographics (like Sweden, Finland and others in northern Europe) are real similar to the US too, right?
It's amazing we have sunk so low as to strive to be like Europe. Maybe obama was wrong in thinking we are not a banana republic.
dumbo has been spending like hell for 5 years and it has not done any good yet. Excuse his big donors and supporters have gotten rich off the tax payer with green energy loans that went busted and left us holding the bag
Try one, anyone.
Demographics explain us paying 167% what other countries pay? Are you trying to say that like everything else it's the Italians - whoops, sorry, wrong century - the Latinos and black's fault?
Look at the chart. Obama is the only president in the last several recessions - including Reagan's - where total government spending has decreased during a recovery.
Things are demonstrably better now than they were in January of 2009. It can't even be reasonably argued otherwise.
Those green energy loans were a drop in the bucket. Pennies if you compare to all the oil and defense payoffs that Bush benefactors got.
Spain? Portugal? France? Ireland? Belgium? Italy?
Any of these countries have better health care than the majority of us have in the US?
We rank 38th in the world in healthcare.
I find the notion that we have been in any way austere pretty comical.
Yeah, right. In what category?
Where are you getting all this propaganda from?
Obama-scam will make it dead last then.
On what metrics would you say that the US outperforms other countries in providing health care?
I am amazed that anyone still clicks on one of Row6's Propaganda Threads anymore (yes, I did, but just to write this, I have him/her on "Ignore").
He/she is just a shill for the Democrat Party line and spews pathetic talking points.
Try "ignore", it works great. (and feel free to use it on me, if you disagree )
Obama and Obama-scam are the only things slowing our economy. It has nothing to do with extra deficit spending the leftists incorrectly call "austerity."
"We need to tax and spend our way to prosperity!"
