In an ideal world, I would say we should win them all every year..but after last year, preceded by the 2012 season, I'm about ready to be out of the record speculation business for a while.

I'm hoping for at least 9 wins and would be pleasantly surprised with 10, but I'm not so confident as to expect either at this point in time. Maybe that will change for me as the offseason progresses.

I have a feeling that Helton was offered a job by UF and said "no thanks". That's just my opinion though.

Kind of like what Spurrier did in hiring Jon Hoke as DC that year when Stoops left for OU. When VT's Bud Foster wouldn't bother to respond, Spurrier decided to offer Hoke the UF DC job after Stoops had only recommended him as a DB's coach.

I'm still wondering if we're going to get some kind of spread OC.

I'm also wondering about OL coach too.

I am hoping win them all and winning 9 plus would not surprise me one bit if we are healthy.

If we don't end up with Helton, I can't imagine that we ever wanted him to begin with. If there was an agreement to let him coach his final game prior to an announcement, it would be inconceivable that terms would not be agreed to already. Muschamp has a fiduciary relationship to the University of Florida, not Clay Helton, or USC.

Will Foley keep Muschamp if Muschamp can't find an OC and OL coach to hire? After all, a new HC could bring his own staff with him.

Retaining Muschamp could very well end up biting Foley in the arse on this one, all for the sake of not wanting one's name attached to an $8 mil buy-out clause.

The only reason Foley retained Muschamp was over that buy-out clause IMO, and there isn't anyone on this board who is going to convince me that we haven't approached at least two or more high profile OC's Foley and Muschamp agreed on and been turned down by them.

The fact that Muschamp is on not just a hot seat at UF, but on a seat that has been doused by gas and set on fire with a flamethrower can't look too appealing to a high-profile OC. In coaching circles, just like in recruiting circle, word gets around about coaches, and I have a feeling that Muschamp is well known for being a micro-manager of his OC's.

Some coaches can get away with it because they know how to allow their assistants to work on their own to a degree that they're confortable at their jobs, but when a HBC is always constantly hovering over an assistant's shoulder telling him every second how to do their job, it can cause a lot of friction. There's a big difference between taking orders from the boss and allowed to go do your job and being followed around around every second by your boss and being told what to do.

Some assistants just don't want to deal with that.

So are you saying that him being in charge of the football team he is not responsible for the results? I think he should be the first choice as he makes the most money and he is the head guy. What planet did you come from California or something?

Looks like USC threw a monkey wrench in our plans when they offered Helton a job after the game. I wonder if this came out of left field. Why didn't they offer him a job the last couple of weeks? The team played inspired today and somehow I think it looks good for USC to offer him a job to help with continuity with the new coaching staff. Coach Helton has 3 children ages 10, 14 and 16 who probably are not interested in moving to Florida.

Dear Graygator, How in the world have you managed to post over 35,000 times with that level of "negativity?" In the old days you would have been diced, quartered, run out of town and BANNED. I agree with everything you said. Of course that will probably be considered guilt by association. I apologize.

It is pretty obvious that nobody worth a chit wants the job.
    Can't blame them.

Geez, we've only been through ONE day of bowl games! Just a thought, but don't some of you realize we could be getting a coach that hasn't finished out his season yet? Maybe it's a respect thing. Or, maybe Foley doesn't want to look like he's tampering. (If there is such a thing) Either way, it does us no good to keep complaining. Let's TRY and wait through some more bowl games, before we re-light the pitch forks. :) deal?

It's not obvious, but it does seem like we're struggling to make the hire. I thought we were given a 2-week timeline after the FSU game. It's been 3 weeks

Coaches are hired before bowl games all the time. It's not tampering. There's zero advantage to waiting.

Yep. I remember hearing that a couple of weeks ago. Just because all of these names have been floated around doesn't mean that any of them were truly candidates. Maybe they were, maybe they weren't?

I can't wait to see who we get as an OC because I think it might help recruiting, but until we get through the first week of January without an OC, I am keeping my hand off if te
