Can somebody enlighten me? Why is it a penalty when the offensive player drops his head when he sees contact is about to be made and thus causes helmet/helmet contact? I'm not saying that is what happened to Riggs today, but I've seen at least 3 other occasions where the offensive player caused that contact. Comments?

What about the very last play of the game? 'Been thinking about that one. I haven't been able to replay it yet. Was that not helmet to helmet.?

the rule is clear---the players know the rule--but keep leading with their helmet on a hit--amazing

Exactly. How many of these do we have to get before it sets in? Not saying I agree or disagree with the rule, but by now we should know better.

Murphy got a few helmet to helmets, punched a few times... No call. This loss was certainly due to lack of depth and our putrid OL, but the refs sure didn't help... AT ALL.

If you are flagged for targeting on the last play of the game, are you suspended for the next game?

The new rule is one of the stupidest and worst rule changes ever.

    They are ruining football.

It's very clear now......they have completely eliminated from the game the high launching hard hit above the shoulders.......ie the kill shot. They call it targeting.
In the early SEC games today 3 DB's were flagged for it, after 15yds was marched off against them they were all ejected for the rest of the game. Not good, they are going to have to learn to not deliver that shot.
