Front page article says he's back on his ship. If correct, that would mean only 1 year, 14/15, left to play. Billy is going above and beyond to give Harris another chance and especially so with his diminishing returns. If he works his way back on the team, I don't see why we don't play him if we need to this season. He's not going to have any less time to play next season.

"Trust the Coaches"---10,908 messages and you have not learned the response to any question regarding a coaching decision? What kind of a sycophant are you? Probably the same as myself.

Not trying to be funny but could a medical redshirt be possible?

Probably won't be a popular opinion (okay, definitely won't), but I'm not a huge fan of coaches saying one thing and contradicting themselves later on (assuming that I'm correct that this was the case of course). I've talked about liking the way Donovan handled situations like Wilbekins and some other players where he would shy away from making absolute statements and handled the situation as if it were fluid. Just for me at least, I think it sets a bad precedent. I think when a coach goes back on something in the favor of playing someone who could help the team, it looks convenient. Just my, probably unpopular opinion. I've had the same complaint of coaches of my teams before. LOTS of coaches do it. Obviously, if I'm incorrect about Billy making a definitive statement on Harris, than this whole post is null and just theoretical at that point.

That aside, obviously I'd want the best for some 20 year old who still had their whole life ahead of him and is in the midst of some very formative years. Obviously Billy can be a good influence on him. This notion, combined with my dislike of coaches saying one thing and doing another - don't have to be connected. I just like for a coaches ability to rehab a player to be exhausted once a final chance, or whatever kind of definitive statement, has been given.

I don't think he ever said anything definitive. Donovan tends to report news as it comes, not as absolute.

I think this situation isn't a good one in terms of coaches BS'ing. Donovan has been open about Harris being unresponsive and that he wasn't a part of the team at the moment. Harris reached out, Donovan isn't allowing him to play this year, but is extending the same opportunity he had this year.

Depends on the offense that has been committed.

It seems that Damontre hurt himself more than his teammates. If he's willing to do what is necessary, then Billy is well within his right to reinstate him.

I tend to trust Donovan a whole lot. I have no reason not to and based on his record here I wonder just who some think we should trust if not him.

For...what? Mental illness? That's not the same as "not having your head on straight"!

I don't read anything in the front page article stating that Harris is back on scholarship, just that he is re-enrolled at UF.

That said, I am way over the Damontre Harris saga, in part because the Chris Walker eligibility has dragged on for so long. I think both sides would be fine if he tried to get his life together in a fresh environment.

Sorry, I was reading the Gator Sports front page story, and now I see the Gator Country front-pager by Franz saying he's back on scholly.

Whether Harris ever makes it back to the team or not, this is good news for him. It shows that he wants to come back and that we want to give him another opportunity.

REM, I don't believe Donovan ever said anything other than "Harris is no longer with the team". I'm not sure this update contradicted that. I think the problem was always Harris not making the effort.

It sounds like Harris pestered Donovan to give him one more shot. Not sure how Donovan can be faulted for obliging.

Great for Harris. Great for the team. A win-win.

I think his "road back" should have included a loss of scholly for this year. . . .which could have, in turn, been given to Kurtz.

Makes sense. A second transfer puts him even further behind. Might as let Billy mold him into the type of player, scholar and citizen he needs to be to move forward in his life. Any other program will just use his remaking eligibility to boost their win-loss record.

Doubt he would benefit from another transfer. The five year clock started over three years ago.

Props to Billy. He could be the key to this kid really going places in life. He is showing a lot of patience.

How many years does he have left to play if he misses this entire year?

Not sure that would have been possible with the costs that an out of state student would have to pay. If Harris has truly had a change of heart and wants to work his way back I think Billy did the right thing for all concerned. There will be a multitude of hoops for Harris to jump thru. It won't be easy for him.
