Wonder why Gville is such a poor baseball town? For a college sports town it does not support baseball very well. Been like that forever.

Not sure what you mean. Every time I have ever seen attendance figures we're top 10/top 15 in the country.

I think in general with the exception of LSU, South Carolina, Mississippi State and a few other places like that, college baseball is a sport where if you draw 3500-4000 on average you're doing pretty good.

Games against FSU, LSU, Miami, South Carolina pack the stadium.

I think I saw somebody getting arrested yesterday for trying to talk baseball.

I would be curious to see actual attendance figures vs. paid attendance figures. Box score against UNF was over 2700. GG04 gave an estimate of 200.

UF has never gotten the students to turn out for baseball.....that is the shortcoming in my book. Never understood why either....it's a cheap, fun, easy evening at the park.

Very true! I was at a USF baseball once when they announced the attendance at 1300 much to the amusement of the 100 of us in attendance.

It is true. UF averages far better than people think for baseball. They are usually 5-7th in the SEC but the SEC dominates college baseball attendance. The SWAC and Texas are big but otherwise it is mostly SEC venues for big attendance. As good as the Pac-12 or whatever number they are have been at baseball (plus other west schools like CSF and Pepperdine), their attendance numbers are weak.

It's no different than asking why the Rays and Marlins don't draw well. Young people from Florida don't like baseball. I really don't think it's any more complicated than that.

The SWAC is top 5ish in attendance. I don't buy this argument.

No way FSU draws better than LSU, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Texas, Ole Miss, Arkansas. They are probably Top 10 but we're pretty close to that also.

Not really a fair comparison until we win a couple of national championships as well.

They are probably 4700 on average I would guess. That won't beat LSU, Arkansas, Texas for sure. South Carolina got bigger a few years ago but I don't recall the new size. Same for Ole Miss. When I went there for a series, they averaged about 4K.

The SWAC might be 6th or 7th. They are pretty high on the list last I checked. Sufficiently high that I don't but the State of Florida argument.

Very true. If our Omaha hardware matched their's, we would definitely have more fans.

If i lived closer I'd be at many more games. Its true though many of my friends don't like baseball and I'm young, its just boring to them.

That isn't a Florida phenomenon. I think it started with the strike and continued with very late World Series games. Kids can't even watch the most exciting baseball games of the season.

They have about 20-25% higher attendance than UF.

By the way, where would you rank Gainesville as a baseball town? UF is still pretty close to top 10 in attendance. UF baseball gets more support than most think. Then add on the fact that the university is basically anti a good atmosphere and it becomes even more impressive.

All the top schools for attendance either have an area IN the stadium for eating and drinking or they are allowed to tailgate right outside. UF hands out tickets for tailgating in the ODome parking lot. You have to go to the Law School. While a nice place to tailgate, the concept is still pathetic.

forgetting about Arkansas and even Miss State.

Miss State and FSU might be close but Arkansas draws significantly more than FSU.
