This is pretty much what Mizzou has been recruiting lately:
    Class ranking
    Rivals/Scout
    2013: 41/36
    2012: 31/34
    2011: 48/47
    2010: 21/27

How do they beat us like a drum? Do we suffer from the Ray Goff syndrome, where we get highly recruited players and do nothing with them to develop them?
Does scheme really hold us back that much?
Is Will a great guy and Def co-ord., but not ready to be a head coach?

P.S. Mizzou plays in the SEC and has injuries just like us and Georgia so I'm not gonna buy into that argument.

what it tells you is the rating system is a joke.

There is good football being played all over this country. Very little separates the abilities of recruits no matter how much we try to rate them.

except for a few that are truly "talented" most players fall right in the mean avg.

I've always wondered whether highly touted players come in with so much self-opinion that it takes time to 'uncoach' them out of complacency and put them back in a team-first mentality. We all remember the chatter about the frosh class under Urban and the division in the team. It was out there and whether it was true or not, the speculation was rife.

My question is probably very unfair and harsh, but I'm sure I'm not the only person who is curious: Do the high calibre, 'highly rated' players in High School want to be 'blue collar' types like Will wants? I imagine nobody would dare cross Saban but is his iron fist always the best way to go?

Heck, all of this in combination is the million dollar question when all is said and done!

It means that tall ass receivers are under appreciated in the ratings.

It means it is a good thing we are not playing UCF this year b/c we have coaching issues.

So the other schools that recruited our players, FSU, LSU, Clemson, Bama...can't rate players either? The many 4 and occasional 5 star we get have everybody fooled, while the 2 and 3 star guys that Mizzou is signing are all hidden gems?

96 why do we invite kids to our camps and evaluate game tape and spend millions on recruiting if we are only going to end up with players with "mean average" ability? I'm not dissing the fact that there is indeed a bell curve in player ability by definition. I agree with you completely there. But, isn't that someone's job at UF to make sure we are getting Urban's famous "top 1% " of the top players ?

The rating system is not a joke. A higher % of 5 stars reach the NFL than the other stars, then 4, then 3, then 2, etc. Of course, there are busts in every category, but unless our coaches are the best at picking the busts, then we have some serious talent on hand and it shows via the defense.

Our Offensive coaching staff is not an SEC caliber coaching staff. Ok they are a Kentucky caliber staff not a top notch staff. We have the talent but the coaches don't know how to use them.

Go look at Pease tenures before Boise. He isn't good.

Rating players in high school is all to do about nothing, a large percentage of players play against weak opponents so they look like world beaters, then they get to college ,play the same caliber or better athletes and get exposed.

a good coach wins that game yesterday, even as bad as we played (given bad coaching) we were in that game for 3/4.

you coach up the players you have and at least compete.
we looked like a div III football team. bye bye boom

We do it to find the kids that are to the right of center. What I am saying that there is not that much difference overall between a center kid and one deviation over. Also there is a limited number of spots per team.

But we still rank them. Is there really that much of a difference between the 10th rank and the 20th rank? 20th and 30th?

But what the hell do I know... I just like watching good football. I am not a guru like some on here.

That kid Sam on Mizzou could easily play for UF. But we either never recruited him or he was not rated high on our boards or we did not have enough room for him.

There is a multitude of reasons....
