    From the Sun:

He will be an early enrollee in January.

“Redshirt is the plan right now,” Grier said. “We’re kind of playing by ear, but redshirt would be best for me, so we will see.”

    Just an FYI.

He's already buying in... Shows maturity and willingness to be coached. Could start as a RS freshman with loads of time in the program already in the bag due to the early enrollment and red shirt.

I believe he doesn't start until his RS sophmore year. I'm glad that he comes in knowing that he has a ways to go to compete in the SEC. But when after he redshirts a year Driskell will be a RS Senior. So he probably gets the nod against a qb who has never taken a live snap in the SEC. Just my thought.

Possible. It would be a great story if Jeff can become what we have all hoped. He still gets 2 years to prove himself.

I would expect this greatly depends on what Driskel ends up doing. If he takes a MRS and gets the '15 season, then that makes total sense. However, that would all but assure JD is the starter in '15, which would suck if Grier is the real deal. A So. has a chance to unseat a SR, a RS Fr doesn't.

Driskel will be a senior. You think they'll open the competition up to a RS Fr? No chance.

Good. It bothers me when a highly rated freshmen QB does not RS. As a EE RS SO he will be fully ready to take over in 2016.

Him starting as a RS frosh would be ideal. Acclimated to college life, a year and a half into the playbook(assuming he is still a Spring entry).

I think most of us assume Driskel will redshirt this year and be a red shirt Sr in 2015

If Driskel gets a med rs, he'll be a RS Jr next year. Not a senior.

This injury does throw off Grier's schedule. He definitely would not have red shirted next year if Driskel finished the year healthy. He would have required real game experience in order to start in '15.

    He's handling it well though.

He is going to get to compete for the job his redshit freshmen year but I am done counting out the back up on the roster. I expect Max and Skylar to compete for it as well

I would pencil JD in as the starter for '15. I won't count out any back-ups ability to run the team, maybe even better than him, but I seriously doubt it will be an open competition. Boom would be very comfortable with a RS sr with plenty of game experience.

Hope you're right. I actually hope he smokes everyone he's competing with enough that there's never any question.

Unless Driskel vastly improves at reading defenses and making good decisions, experience or not, the QB competition, I believe, will be very open in 2015. Especially if Murphy is able to show that he can take the reigns, with little in-game experience, and be successful.
