I got thinking today. (Yes, it is good to take a few steps back and seek cover!!).
What GATORS icon best embodies the essence of everything Gators? I understand we are the "Fightin' Gators", but is it Albert? Mr. Two Bits? Century Tower? The O-Dome? The Swamp itself? Gen. Van Fleet, Timmy? Danny? Wilbur (not Eric, the kicker, Marshall...lol!! :)

What say you? The Alligator is the official mascot, I guess and the guy in the plush, green SHAM WOW outfit (Is Vince inside???) known as Albert is an icon but not technically a mascot.

I think it's Tigert Hall. More UF students have been screwed over there than in Hume old/new, Graham, Tolbert, Flavet combined!!!

Great question, swamp. My first reaction reading the title was to think by icon you meant a person....and Danny was the first to come to mind. After reading the post tho, I'd have to say the most recognizable image used to represent/identify UF is the current Gator head logo.

Can't think of anyone more deserving. Although Tim comes to mind also.

I love Danny and Tim, but because those great Gators worked in systems tailor made for them, my vote goes to Chris Leak. Makes the bold prediction for top athletes to join him to come to the University of Florida, then overcomes unbelievable adversity and criticism, only to leave the University of Florida with a crystal trophy in his hands as the leader of the 2006 Gators. He never let ANYTHING deprive him of his focus.

Second would be Steve Spurrier, wearing that visor, the embodiment of the Heisman winner returning to the fold to lift the Gators to heights they never before reached. The Greatest Gator of them all...

    If you do use people-
poor Billy D, does not get even a mention

I would not use a person, maybe a Mount Rushmore, but if one person, has to be Billy D

I think the image that embodies the Fighting Gators image is the Pic of Tebow at FSU the one called the Brave Heart Pic !

Yeah, I think of a player/coach. Spurrier, Danny or Tim instantly came to mind. As for the actual logo, I like:

I hate that font for the "F." give me old Albert any day of the week and the Gator script on the helmet, with the formerd font at The Swamp.

This has always been my favorite. I think it was/ is painted on one of the inside walls of the swamp.

Always liked it, but then again I'm a bit nostalgic of the 80's. And old Albert with the ball cap is my 2nd.

2 come to mind in the non-breathing category.
the home of drop and add makes this icon one of a kind, the beginnings of English bond brick built in 1951, the year I was born, this puts Tigert Hall in the top 2.
The rest of my time I spent at Florida Field...so they say

Old school Albert all bowed up and the Pell Shield are my favorite logos.

The "new" Albert logo where it looks like he's trying to claw at something is the worst.

As far as campus icons go, Century Tower wins, and it's not close...61 years and it still hasn't lost a brick. ;)

Century Tower? never set foot in the place, ran around it naked once..... Tigert is older.
