i'm sure there are plenty on both sides of aisle who throw the term around without really understanding.
But, you're right, on Too Hot, one side is the culprit far more often.

I think the OP is a little off. The hypocricy is with those who lambasted the administration over the patriot act but think the recent nsa expansion is perfectly fine.

IOW if you want to define hypocricy, look in the mirror.

Yes, the people who blasted Bush but defended Obama, or defended Bush or blasted Obama for doing the same thing would be hypocrites.

Jon Stewart has an excellent piece highlighting actual hypocrisy, using Obama and democrats attacking Bush's use of executive privilege and later defending Obama's use of same.

It is funny to see liberals try to lecture anyone on the art of hypocrisy.

Making this an issue solely related to "liberals" is an actually an act of hypocrisy in itself.

...who all feed from the same trough.

The government is a single entity.

Liberal nuance. Any time they are confronted with a blatant example of hypocrisy (or irony), they simply say that 'you really don't understand what you're saying.'

It's classic, really. Like a child putting fingers in is ears when confronted with something he really disnt want to hear.

Interesting. Your argument is all government is one entity, so therefore it is hypocritical when Rep. Frank Lucas voted for the farm bill and Rep. Mike Pompeo voted against it, because those two individuals are the same entity.

Further, you argue that any beings that "feed from the same trough" are the same entity. In this way, humans and pond algae must be the same entity because they both ultimately derive their energy from the sun.

I just don't see the world this way. You can view these many very different people as the same person if you want, but then I wonder why you spend so much time bashing only a select few of them.

Wrong... I am an equal opportunity government basher.

So, with this in mind, how do YOU excuse your hypocrisy WRT criticizing the government?

I really haven't seen you defending democrats very often.

Again, I don't view the government as one entity. Therefore, I don't find it hypocritical to criticize the farm subsidies and defend the first amendment.

that's what's bizarre to me. i can't figure if those claiming hypocrisy and single entity have thought this through at all.

Why would anyone in their right minds think through two completely unrelated topics and try to use them as a basis for the simple acknowledgement that the government (the sum of many parts) and the people who blindly support the party in charge of said government, engages in hypocritical behavior?

that's what government is. hundreds, thousands of completely unrelated topics.

and if you want to accuse someone of hypocrisy, you have to be a lot more specific that "you support the govt."

Oh dear Lord you are obtuse. The two completely unrelated topics were the farm bill and the first amendment which some other genius brought into the conversation.

As to the second point - no sh$t Sherlock. This was specifically about the hypocricy of bashing Bush for the Patriot Act but saying nary a word about the NSA expansion of that program. There are plenty here that did exactly that. Specific enough? Because you admitted as much up thread.

If you slammed bush but now defend Obama over this = hypocrite
If you supported bush but now think obama is over stepping =hypocrite

    Pretty easy

save your insults. Yes, I said that earlier in the thread. When did the subject of this thread become nothing but Bush and the Patriot Act.

Hey, Sherlock, Bush and the PA are not the 'subject of the thread' but a tangent in our volley back and forth. But carry on geniuses.

actually, that particular discussion that you decided to step in on was started by Dave's comment "The government is a single entity."
To which GatorRade responded, to which I responded.
And then you stepped in calling other people stupid.

Always a good idea to read the stuff back over before you declare that others are stupid.
