When asked about Elam--"Definitely a guy we can make plays on." Johnson basically never gets perturbed but according to the Detroit media he is more than a little irked. Johnson obviously does not need any motivation but it appears the Dwyer High School "Motor Mouth" may have touched a nerve. Matthew's comments relating to West Virginia transfers were largely ignored but this one may get some extra notice on MNF.

Elam's upside is unquestioned, but he needs to keep his mouth shut until he firmly starts backing it up, especially when talking about the best receiver on the planet. Show a little respect Matt, leave the trash talk for the field, and let your play do the talking.

I still remember a poster or two here saying he wouldn't make it in the NFL... too short. ;)

He was doubted by a few and you're right, some said he was under-sized. Pure GOD gifted talent...

It's fun to watch a player with that kind of speed close in for a tackle. It's very... sudden.

I'm glad to see you have all forgiven him for his comments about the program after Brissett's transfer. That is very benovolent of you guys as fans. The coverage on Johnson was stifling by the entire Ravens secondary and he couldn't even get his hands on the ball due to the tight coverage. Stafford worked his "DOG" magic and the good people of Detroit should draw solace in the fact he is only owed and guaranteed an additional 94,000,000. Maybe they can have a "Stafford Bailout."

You mean his comment when he was going back and forth with someone on twitter? He and Jacoby are good friends. His comment wasn't about "the program". It was in defense of his friend and he called someone a "Driskel lover". If you knew Elo personally, you'd know he's 100% Gator.

It's as if some people try to find ways to make villains out of players...

I agree with you and we even talked about it on a PM I think. I think the Driskel lover bit was too far (calling it a sad story), but besides that he's fine. I think he just got too caught up in what he was saying.

Truly a remarkable performance from Elam, no doubt. He let his play do the talking, and that's the way it should be. He plays with a nasty streak that is absolutely paramount at his position, not to mention having the task of filling the shoes of one of the best safeties to play the game. Although some of his comments have come off as a little "of the cuff" at times, he ALWAYS brought it in every game he played in. I wish we would've had 22 of him in the Sugar Bowl last year.....

As a Lions fan CJ had a lousy game. Elam played alright - didn't do much and that pick was right in his hands.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. I know you were hoping Johnson would scorch Elam.

    Oh well, maybe next time.

Just as in college, CJ disappeared at big moments.

I don't remember a whole lot of CJ disappearing in college. A brief perusal of his stats indicates he did pretty damned well against pretty much everyone. I recall he had a rough game his last season against Clemson, but keep in mind he also had a monster game against them in his freshman team.

I'm not about to describe Calvin Johnson as anything but an amazing football player.

10 tackles and a pick...That's playing "alright"? Give Elo a little more credit.

Then why doesn't he say as much on the "introductions" on MNF (I didn't watch last night, but he didn't last time Ravens were on MNF/SNF).
