The 10 point drop and 28% approval rating is specific to the Republican party, not Congress as a whole. The Democrat party's ratings can be found in the article as well

Only 43 percent said they have a favorable view of the Democratic Party, but that’s 15-percentage points better than the GOP, and slightly better than the Democratic low mark of 41 percent in 2010.

This is the poll on approval ratings for the party, not Congress.

Presumably the GOP's low approval rating isn't attributable in any meaningful way to "people disapprove of the Democratic Party."

No surprise here - the Republicans keep selling out to the great many kooks in their party. And the kooks sit around patting eachother on the back, getting absolutely nothing done.

Anyone care to dispute that ? OK, what have the Republicans gotten done since......Reagan ? Invaded Iraq ? Medicare Part D ? Massively added to the debt ?

It's practically impossible to identify a SINGLE positive GOP political initiative in DECADES. Opposing Obamacare is about all anyone here could assert. Opposing a plan largely based on GOP planning and Romneycare, that is.

Sad. But the kooks will soldier on, marching like kooky lemmings right off the cliff !! (Let's just hope they don't take too many of us with them)

Gallup's been polishing Obama's knob, and so as the AP, since Obama was a community organizer. Nothing but propaganda coming from that clown-show poll. However it is interesting to note that the entire congress has a 5% approval rating while the Pubs are at 28%.

This about it. The AP had the entire congress, Pubs and Dems, at 5% approval rating. In order for the Gallup poll to jibe with those numbers from the AP poll the Dems would have to have a negative approval rating or the sample size of the AP poll would have to be far larger than that of the Gallup pole. And the Dems would still have to have a 1 or 2% approval rating to make these two polls accurately close to one another, which there are not.

The only other possible answer for this discrepancy is that the variables are so great with both polls that it makes both polls useless, tilted and completely inaccurate.

Don't know (and it really doesn't matter), but his points are valid.

Ever since the GOP made a strategic decision to court the religious right, their ability to accomplish anything constructive seems to have diminished. While success in attracting religious conservatives (and, later, Tea Party conservatives) has helped the GOP electorally in some areas there are downsides attached.

One is that a great many moderate Republicans have been truned off to some extent by the catering of the Republican leadership to the far right of the party on social and moral issues. Another is that the Republicans "new" adherents are big on "anti-" this and that, but not very strong on being "pro" anything constructive.

This portion of the party seems intent on black and white views on most every issue - good vs evil, us vs them, and tends to see those who disagree in perjorative terms as "takers" who are going to destroy the country. If the GOP insists on being directed by the far right wing of its membership, it will be increasingly marginalized.

In the debate on which side is worse some miss the pojnt that the
majority is tired of th BS and want all to go back to work.

The polls show that for sure but when the two sets of four year olds
stop fighting over one toy, maybe they will do what they are elected
to do...run the nation for the greater good.

All I see from most of you is delight in fighting the other party.

That is sad for Americans who only want the best for the nation.
