I've got a contrarian take. You're going to heaven & I'm not!! Hope to get a good recording of this this month (& Heavy Metal Herpes on a Microphone)

    Straight to Hell

I aint going to the pearly gates

    Where those angels fly

    Aint gonna see my maker

& get to ask her why

    Aint going where sinners

throw a penny in the well

    Probably on her bad side

    & going straight to hell

I’ m going straight to hell boy

    Going straight to hell

    Going straight to hell boy

    Cuz that’s where I belong

    If ain’t nobody sinned, lord

    Then Jesus died in vain

    Just about every Friday night

    I justify his pain

    You sit & judge me

    Sitting on your perch

    Cuz it’s faith I lack

    & I ain’t too keen to search

I’ m going straight to hell boy

    Going straight to hell

    Going straight to hell boy

    Cuz that’s where I belong

Heaven on earth will have to do

    I don’t wanna die

It’s too late for me to turn back

    Not that I would try

    Party starts today friend

    Let’s do another shot

Cuz all I know for sure is

    I’m going where it’s hot

I’ m going straight to hell boy

    Going straight to hell

    Going straight to hell boy

    Cuz that’s where I belong

but the 'you're not going to heaven' were directed, at least two examples I remember, at Gatorrick and myself. Care to point out how either of us disparaged religion?

But it isn't some "interpretation" if one is quoting it verbatim. One can certainly argue with the accuracy of truth of the scriptures, but direct quotes should not be viewed as "interpretations".

Yet unbelievers become believers all the time, and even vice versa, though at a lower volume I assume.

So? Your U.S. history history books documentation of slavery and a civilizations acceptance of it does not equate to it's condoning of it. Nor does the Bibles.

Also, slavery in the Hebrew times was much more like an indebted servitude or employment than we know of as slavery.

Either way you are misrepresenting the scriptures just like it would be wrong to say that US History 101 condones slavery.

Also, there were no Christians in the Old Testament. We who follow Christ know His opinions of many OT "laws" and standards. Hint: He blew it all up much to the shagrin of those who tried to stick to it.

Is the OT "profitable for doctrine" as the Bible claims? Sure. Is it a direct narrated letter to me and you on how to do every thing? Of course not.

I am a believer and I don't see the allure...At least for Hell.
If Hell as believed by some exists in the literal sense, than we should hope they are wrong.
Any believer who finds an "allure" in the concept of hell has missed the point entirely.

This speaks nothing of if it exists or not...but as someone who claims to follow Christ and loves my neighbor, I hope the concept of hell is wrong. My hope doesn't make it so however.

I am a bit of a "Hell agnostic" I simply am unsure what it means. I do believe Jesus words on the subject were lost on English interpretation and have been skewed.

I think the allure of 'hell' for the non-Christian is that heaven is apparently full of Ned Flanders Christians and hell is full of cool people like them.

...and that someone will mock it as a fairy tale and foolish.

Perhaps those who find faith foolish should simply ignore a thread based on the joy of our faith?

Actually, whatever hell is will be full of people who selfishly misrepresented Christ for their own gain. Pharisees.

Don't drag @Gatorrick22's name into it, I doubt he wants to attend the pity party you're throwing for yourself. Look, it's a basic tenant of Christianity that Heaven is a reward for people of faith. Which means those who don't have it aren't invited. Sorry! If you don't want to be offended by that concept, then don't click on praise threads like this one. Or, if you do want to be offended because you're looking for something to complain about, then click away I guess.

Nope. That is simply too much to ask. They feel victimized by the existence of a club they don't belong to, and are compelled to complain. What choice do they have?

Jokes aside, I believe that true agnostics and atheists are comfortable and confident in their beliefs (or lack thereof), and have no desire to challenge or belittle believers. Show me someone who feels the need to go out of their way to mock religion at every turn, and I'll show you someone who is searching for Christ. I wish I could give them the encouragement they need, but I'll leave that to patient proselytizers like @mulegator and @Gatormb.

But the annoying ones might be in Hell, so maybe you should reconsider the faith. ;)

I read the Bible on my own... and someone else might reads it to me... I get the messages therein without paying a religious organisation 10% of my earnings just to reserve a place in the Kingdom of Heaven. Bill makes it sound like if you don't go to church or some equivalent that all bets are off.

Ya know ..... this is something I don't understand. Why is a non-Christian offended by any assertion that a non-Christian will not gain access to Heaven? As a non-believer they "know" there is no Heaven .... so why be offended when told they will not go to a place they "know" does not exist?

I think Bill is saying that faith in Jesus is the key to the Christian scriptures. Which it is. He has never mentioned any denomination or ritual. 10% by the away is another OT number. Jesus never one time gave a percentage of giving.

We give to our church because it is what runs our food pantry, pays for staffing, keeps the lights on, upkeeps the campus etc. My church (and most churches mind you) do not out a monetary price on salvation.

Going to church is like going to tailgate parties. You go to friend's tail gate parties to share the love of Gator football, to have some joy and solace (recent seasons). You may also go to gain knowledge of other games, events, etc. You build up your Gator life.

Same with church, except, it is about Jesus Christ, not the football team. Your faith grows, your friendships grow, you should be having some fun at and after church with those people. I do.

I give because I want to give. Not because I have to give.

The OT set up lots of rules and regulations for the Jews so as to establish a nation, a line of ancestors for the Messiah. It was to give them a life guidance, a blue print. If not they would have inter married with evil tribes, become adsorbed and lost into history. There would not have been a Messianic line as written in NT . Ever wonder why the Jews have remained the Jews for 1,000's of years in spite of virtually every nation, tribe, society trying to rid the world of them.
