against Bama no less. They won game one of the three game series 5-0. Gators have been dominant in post season play. Best team at the plate in the WCWS and one of the best defensive squads throughout the season. Let's avenge the 2012 NC loss to Bama and get Tim Walton and crew their first NC!

Game two tomorrow night at 8:00 pm

We weren't one of the eight teams in the 2012 CWS. In the finals that year, Bama beat Oklahoma. We did, however, avenge our 2009 CWS finals loss to Washington in this year's Super Regional. Our other finals loss was in 2011 to Arizona State, when that dreadful west coast home plate umpire screwed us horribly on ball/strike calls.

Thanks Jeff. I thought I heard the announcers say something to this effect. Guess I heard 'em incorrectly.

2012 was a dark year, but Coach did the right thing. It is why we only have 2 Seniors now. And, we would not be in the title game had he let the cancers stay on the team.

From what I've heard, the 2012 trouble makers transferred to other SEC team's.

Ok, so I'm guessing we beat Bama and Jackie Traina (sp). So are they throwing her again or a new arm? Who are the Gators throwing tonight? It is tonight, correct, for the Championship if the Gators win? (Tuesday night) I might get to see the tail end of it I hope. really hope Coach Walton gets this victory.... The guy has really put Florida softball on the map as a yearly juggernaut to challenge. He deserves it so I hope he gets it.

    GO LADY GATORS!!!!

Anyone know when the team is coming in when they win the title tonight? Are they flying home tonight or tomorrow?

Looking ahead to next season, we lose one every game starter, Stephanie Tofft at 3rd base. I've looked at the returning roster and don't see anyone with 3B experience. Who can we train for the position short of starting a true freshman at the hot corner. Since Aubree Munro has beaten out Taylore Fuller at catcher, maybe she'd be a consideration to get her bat back into the lineup? The other possibility might be Chelsea Herndon? However, she was a utility player and pitcher coming out of high school. Any ideas?

The other senior we lose is Hannah Rogers. I hope we can bring in a quality RHP to go with lefty Delanie Gourley. My guess is Gourley will be the ace of the staff with Lauren Haeger continuing to draw double duty.

All things considered, the outlook for a focused 15 softball team is outstanding.

Found our signed softball players coming in for the 15 season (no pitcher like Gourley):

    Megan Reed - OF
    Nicole Dewitt - INF
    Kayli Kvistad - INF
    Rebecca Shipper - UT/C
    Janell Wheaton C/1B
    Aleshia Ocasio - SS/OF/P

It looks like we'll have some freshmen competing with existing team players for the open 3B slot.

In regards to pitching, it looks like we will go with two in 15, Gourley and Haeger. I guess having 3 pitchers in 14 was a luxury.

Since we signed 6 player and are only losing 2, it appears we played the 14 season below whatever the softball ship/roster limit allows.

Lele Ocasio has been the best pitcher in Central Fl for the last 3 years, absolutely dominant. She is also a great athlete/hitter so don't know where UF projects her.

All of our signers are elite athletes who could play quickly. Kvistad can really hammer the ball and she played 3rd base at Lake City Columbia. She hit over .500 with 12 home runs and 41 batted in this past season.

Huge news is that Amanda Lorenz, the #1 rated prospect in high school softball has committed to UF. A California outfielder, she just finished her junior year hitting .625 with 17 home runs. She's an amazing athlete and a virtual line drive machine. Walton' s got this thing rolling.

In the Gatorzone article when she signed in April, the others signed in November, Walton said he expected her to compete for an infield position. If she's that good in the circle, he probably will use her as the third pitcher as well.
