Think they are still underrated. But CBB rankings aren't worth diddly right now

I hope we stay around 10. (Won't happen, we will move up) we just tend to get a good draw to the elite 8 when we are a 3 seed and this team won't let us down when we get that far

I'll take it. Keep winning and the rankings will take care of themselves especially with conference play about to begin. Billy was smart playing a tough non-conference schedule, that will pay off in March

I agree with this but I do have one point that seems to make the polls at least a little relevant right now. We have played a tough schedule and anyone who actually looked at our losses and what players were available in those losses, knows we were the better team. After those losses, we followed them up with some really solid wins. Now even though we had a tough schedule with a lot of solid wins, we are just #13 right now. Now to my point, we have to be very good the rest of the season just to get a seed we deserve. If we were ranked where we should be (IMO top 5), we could lose a couple and not worry about going beneath a 3-4 seed.

I think you may be applying a football mentality here. The Gators can, and probably will, drop 2-4 games (I forecast a 26-5 record) and still be a three seed. Depending upon where/when they lose, they could even be a two. There are so many more games for the Gators and the rest of the field that a lot can happen.

I don't know if we can lose 4 (more) and still be a 3 seed this year. The SEC is really weak and our initial schedule should have helped offset that. We haven't gotten the respect we deserve and now if we drop a few games with an off night to a team not in the Top 25, we could be drop to a 4-5 seed and have a tough matchup in the tourney.

This year Im not worried about it at all, our schedule is very favorable for us and winning out isn't that crazy of a thought, Im just saying in principle, our ranking could have screwed us if the SEC actually had a pulse this year. We arent getting respect for the tough schedule we played early IMO.

0607 - that record (25-6) is prior to the SEC tourney. If they win a couple games there, the record looks that much better. If they manage to win the tourney, they have a shot at a higher seed. Again, it's too early to play the "respect" card. The pollsters may be behind in their information, but I suspect they will catch up after the Gators reel off a bunch of wins, esp if they dominate the SEC like many of us believe they can. The current AP ranking (#13) basically has the Gators as the highest four seed, but the ranking does not tell the whole story, as their strength of schedule and quality wins/losses would likely boost that seed to a three. There is so much more basketball to play and the polls are not the most important factor in seeding.

Most overrated team = Duke. I haven't watched Baylor yet, so not sure about them.

Whoo-ooo...jumped one spot!...lol...I think if we keep winning the polls will take care of themselves because Wisky and OSU have to play each other in a tough Big Ten conference (man it was hard to use "tough" and "Big Ten" in the same sentence).

I think we should keep this thread and change the tittle to Gator AP Rankings or words to that effect. It would be interesting to have it to look back on as we move through the season and (hopefully) up the rankings. I don't worry too much about the committee being influenced by the rankings. I remember a couple years ago when their was objection to our getting a three seed but we wound up in the elite eight so we outplayed our seeding. The committee are probably the most knowledgable basketball group on the planet and are independent of the AP voters.

Still far too early for polls to be very meaningful.

You really don't have adequate information to comparatively assess teams until perhaps midway through their conference schedules and even then, really, not until the NCAA tournament. Of course people love to rank things and say that one thing is somehow better than another. It appears to be almost as powerful a human need/desire as unquestioning belief and blind obedience are.

This team should be a one-seed, and will be if nobody else gets hurt (or suspended) and misses games against the wrong teams - and we can hit a few more free throws.
