I grow tired of these Bama comparisons. If you're going to do it, please make sure it's actually an accurate comparison.

Ole Miss >>> UK, and Bama has earned the benefit of the doubt on account of winning 3 of the last 4 NCs.

    1. LOL! There isn't enough hemp on Earth to make a rope long enough for Saban. To paraphrase Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards, the only way Saban would lose is job is to get caught being in bed with a dead girl or a live boy. He is absolutely untouchable, which to me is BS because he could have a dozen 8-5 seasons and nothing would be said, whereas Boom could have one and people want his head.

    2. It wasn't always that way. In the 1980s, we had great teams that were like Muschamp's teams, but since SOS arrived, Florida fans not only want to win, but to be entertained, as though opposing teams simply don't matter. The crazy thing about this is that (a) most games against good opponents, SOS did not put half a hundred on the board, and (b) SOS's philosophy involves defense first, with a ball control offense. IOW, not much different than Muschamp's.

I think that you are mistaking a comparison of style with one of quality. If I say that my kid nephew has a boxing style similar to Buster Douglas, I certainly don't mean to say that his last opponent was as good as Mike Tyson.

Thank you. How so many posters seem to miss that not so subtle point is beyond me.

I understand your perception but since 2006 Bama has averaged 30+ points per game.

I liked Uk's DL. They weren't bad, but the rest of their D was. I watched the replay of the Bama - 'Ole Miss game last night, and Bama's OL had an awful time handling 'Ole Miss' DL. Those guys were pretty darn good.

What amazed me about that game was, for all the positive cred Ole Miss was getting offensively, how terribly pedestrian they were. Granted, Bama has a solid defense and the game was in Tuscalossa, but they did not nothing on that side of the ball.

Could just as easily be LSU vs Florida from my point of view ... lot of football left to play.

And they passed for about the same amount of yardage.
If anything, it shows Alabama dinks and dunks more than UF. If you want more dinks and dunks, I'm sure that can be accommodated.

I just want a productive offense. So far this year we've been way below average. It is very difficult for offenses to be productive without balance, and even more of they overly tilt run.

We've been a lot better since Murphy came in so maybe the tide is turning.

But to your point I'm agnostic on offensive style. I just like production.

    Below what average? What categories?

Obviously you are not agnostic otherwise why did you bring up the run/pass numbers and "balance"?

Average being based on 126 teams. Which that in itself is a very bad sign for Florida to be measured against. We should be measured against our true peer group (top teams in BCS conferences), not lumped in with the FIUs of the world. At minimum we should be compared within conference, but in that case we may be the worst offense in the SEC.

What stat? Honestly pick pretty much any decent one and we won't look great. Whether you want to go advanced or just standard yards/points.

Better than last year, and better with Murphy. So things are looking up.

And I am agnostic on the type of O. However, history shows it is very difficult for teams with run focused unbalanced offenses to do well. If you want to be unbalanced, being unbalanced on the passing side is better. And if you want to be unbalanced due to run, you better be running the option or something exotic.

I think you are implying that I want something crazy and exotic. I'd be perfectly fine with Alabama's offense. They are very balanced. Sure they were 40-32 run-pass, but their last 8 plays were runs. Their base offense is a balanced offense. Ours is not. (yes I realize our offense is somewhat similar as we go all run late in games which does skew our numbers somewhat).

Bama has a top 10 offense this year. So does Baylor. So does A&M. So does Oregon. So does FSU. Frankly all different offenses. There are many of ways to skin a cat. I really don't care how we get there.

What stats are you looking at for Bama to be a top 10 offense?
    72nd in pass ypg
    70th in rush ypg
    85th in tot offense

    Fla
    96th pass ypg
    36th rush ypg
    72nd tot offense

Also they passed more due to inability to get 3rd and manageable as apparent in there converted 8 of 17 3rd downs to Fla going 8 of 13. Plus 10 more completions(14 more attempts) to produce 24 more yards. Or nine more plays for 32 more yards.

How can you call Bama a top 10 offense when they are 13th in the SEC in tot offense.
