University of Florida track signee Riley Smith ran a 4:04.65 indoor mile at the Florida High School meet last weekend. That mark presently leads the country. Riley attends Gainesville Buchholz. He is slated to run at Milrose against some of the top high school milers in the country.
Riley won the 3200k race at the FSU relays in 8:39.71… the best ever H.S. time in Florida and the early number one time in the nation. Incidentally up until last year only 4 high schoolers in the U.S. had ever ran the 3200 in under 8:40.
Outdoor is just gearing up, and I quite frankly I don’t know all the UF signees. I’ll certainly share what I have found… perhaps others can chime in. 1. Nicolas Crosswhite out of Georgia has 7’1/4” high jump and 25’2” long jump. 2. Jonathan Leon finished 4th at this years Florida relays in the 1600 at 4:16.33. 3. Abbey Elmore out of Texas placed 2nd last year in the under 20 category at the Pan Am games in the Heptathlon. 4. Jaden Lippett from Winter Haven won the recent Florida Relays with a TJ of 51’61/4” which leads the country early. 5. Joshua Ruiz had the fastest CC 5K in Florida high school history at 14:38 last year at The Meet of Champion in Alabama. 6. Ava Wyant from Oviedo placed 2nd in the Girls 1600m at the relays. I’m sure there are plenty of others that I don’t have information on, I know we signed an outstanding LJ/ HJ from Texas in Alyssa Banales, and a really good hurdler/ sprinter from out west named Skye Lee. I really do apologize for leaving anyone out, but it’s due to a lack of knowledge rather than any disrespect. Incidentally Riley Smith did win the 800mat the relays in 1:50.96, and no I’m not related.
