We went 29-30 last year. We're on a little winning streak now, which is nice, but our offense can barely push the ball past the infield at this point. My very last concern right now is, "Are we engineered appropriately for the College World Series?" At the moment we're not engineered very well for the women's softball stadium.

You put together the best team that you can in an effort to win a ton of games. That doesn't have to include a lot of home runs, but doing so will certainly make things simpler. You can't just shrug off a lack of power by pointing to the stadium in Omaha, and you can't construct a roster around the hypothetical concept of an "Omaha-appropriate offense."

You are 100% right but look at the UCLA team that just won it all. Lights out pitching with very weak hitting.

You don't want to build your team like that but a team like that can be successful but the pitching has to be top shelf.

I have to agree this team will struggle to string together enough runs to win if we don't start getting a few homers each series.

Alonso with his first homer of the season - so that's 5 gator homers for the year. He hit it into the visitor's bullpen in right center. He goes the other way so well.

Now, if the pitching staff is going to allow one run a game for the rest of the season, then the home runs sort of fade in significance.

Wouldn't be more fun to have a base hit watch? Why watch for something that never happens?

The dingers are coming fast and furious now. Put Josh Tobias on the board, and with a big 'un.

The Gators have won 8 out of their last 9, including two wins over Arkansas and one over FSU. Thankfully, pitching and defense have been far more important in recent weeks than home runs.

I'm sure there are some posters on the board that would rather the team have a reverse record of 7-14 with 42 home runs (two a game) than where we currently sit. I believe as some of the big freshmen bats get a little more comfortable we will see a few more leave the park.

Don't be so dramatic. Kevin O'Sullivan himself is on record calling for increased offense in the college game.

Martin was on Steve Russell's show yesterday basically saying the same thing.

I was being rather sarcastic but those who enjoyed and are waiting for the return of the "OLD" days of home runs flying out of the park on a regular basis will be waiting a long time. Now on the other hand you would hope that most of the kids would have batting averages approaching .300 or higher. To have a bunch of kids hovering in the .200 range for major college baseball is a concern.

Next year they are changing the seams on the ball, more like the ball in the minors. Was told testing showed an extra 15 feet of "carry" off the bat.

Turgeon with a solo big fly and Shafer with his first of the season. Gators 2: LSU 1.

Gushue with another (his 3rd) last night and Bader hits his first today. I think that is 10 for the year. Not too shabby although SCe with 19 has been mashing the ball all over the park. We'll see how they do against very good (gator) pitching.

Having the bases loaded with no outs and guys continually striking out is a concern for me. Of course, if the next guy up kept hitting into a double play then it would give us something else to complain about. But maybe we would at least score a run in those situations. Looks like the bats may be waking up some which is encouraging. As good as the pitching has been it seems that the 9th inning has been a little bit of an issue once games have been seemingly put away. I am really encouraged by the progress the team seems to be making.
