Gator goal: Shut down Ole Miss guards (Brockway)
    Kevin Brockway Gvl Sun
Florida showed improved defensive intensity and execution in its home win over Mississippi State earlier this week.

The Gators will look to continue that focus on both ends of the floor when they travel to the Magnolia State to face guard-heavy Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss., on Saturday.

Led by the scoring of senior guard Deandre Burnett and junior guard Terrence Davis, Ole Miss ranks sixth in the SEC in scoring at 78.6 points per game. Memphis grad transfer Markel Crawford has also provided a spark off the bench for the Rebels, averaging 10.3 points and 2.0 assists.

“We’ve got to be very aware of who does what from what spot on the floor, and the difference of each of their five guards on the floor,” Florida coach Mike White said. “They’re very unique in that I don’t know how many teams in the country have five guards on the perimeter averaging nine points or more. They’re all true guards. And they have some capable front court guys, as well.”

Interesting that Ole Miss strength is also the Gators strength, although the Gators have more wings than true guards, of whom there are only 3 on the roster in Chiozz, Allen & Okauru. Hopefully Okauru's recent defensive improvement will get him at least 10 and better 15 minutes in this game.

Interesting that opponents will likely be doubling down inside on the Gators now somewhat stronger, albeit not deeper, frontcourt.

Hoping to see Igor and Hudson insist that Allen take more shots and help set him up for them, if Allen won't come out of his shell on his own.

They've played us really tough in recent years so this should be no different. This has to be Allen's breakout game. He's averaging almost 19 points per game against Ole Miss. We need him to start playing like an all-SEC player.

Their wildcard player is 7 foot Dominik Olejniczak. Played 30 minutes against Auburn and got a double-double including 6 offensive rebounds. That confidence could carry over if we don't put a body on him at all times.

Coach should have told them that keeping the opposing front court in check was also important.
