I can't read any of the posts above mine.....just finished Season 3 last night! I was stunned at episode 9......I knew there was going to be a "red wedding" but I always thought it would be the season finale and Geoffrey's wedding!!! never thought is would happen in episode 9 and to the Starks. So sad....the world is doomed.....they want us to think Dany will save the world, but something tells me it won't be that easy

Yes, and to make matters worse, winter is coming. The cold winds are rising and the dead rise with them.

Sunday nights show was pretty violent in the end, even when you know its coming since I read the books. Two more shows until the season is over. It goes by so quickly.

Yeah, even knowing what happens didn't help. Oberyn's character was just so amazing in the show and his acting/emotion was so strong during that fight that, for a fleeting second, I hoped he would win. Then I remembered how things would end and it came in the most gruesome way possible.

Even more gruesome than I imagined when I read it. Still hurt even though I knew it was coming.

Judging from the promo, next week's episode just like the Battle of Blackwater will take place entirely at the wall/Castle Black and it is going to be awesome.

Anybody know what was meant by the whole Beatle story? I've been trying to figure out what they're getting at but I havent been able to come to a conclusion.

None of that was in the books, so no insight there. My guess is that our minds tend to drift to insignificant memories of our youth when faced with death like Tyrion was/is. Possibly Tyrion just needed to talk about a shared memory with someone (the last one) who identifies with him. Of course, the fact that the Mountain crushed the Red Viper's (and before that Elia's) head about as easily and with as much empathy as their simple cousin did with beetles was not lost on me.

The mountain crushing oberyns skull was the only connection I could draw honestly. Thank you for the reply, wasn't sure if there was something key there I was missing.

Also caught that Jamie points out there is no name for cousin killing. Oh the irony. Lol

Sorry, I'm missing the irony. I've read the books, and I can't remember what cousin we're talking about here. Lancel is the only Lannister cousin I'm aware of, and (spoiler alert) Jaime does not kill him, even after Lancel confesses to bedding his sister.

    ^^
If you remember in the books there was a branch of House Frey that was always loyal to the Lannisters because of marriage ties and what not. The show replaced them with various Lannister cousins. Jaime killed his cousin (show stand in for Cleos Frey) in Season 2.

Just because the beetle story isn't in the books doesn't mean it is pointless. The last scene we saw with Tyrion before that was Oberyn telling him Cersei had hated Tyrion since birth.

Just as Tyrion couldn't figure out why Orson loved killing beetles, Tyrion can't understand why his sister and father have wanted him dead since birth.

Really enjoying Season 4 so far. One thing I find interesting is that everyone not in King's Landing or The Wall will be well into material for books 4 & 5. As someone who found A Feast for Crows and A Dance With Dragons lacking compared to the first 3 books I welcome the show having severely abridged versions of those books.

They've introduced the Iron Bank a lot earlier as well.

Yep sorry I haven't read the books so I didn't know they changed the character in the series.
