Meh, my take away is: the vast majority of Americans are proud of being American. A finding that is totally unsurpising, and not very interesting.

I kind of put the "Hey, we say we're more proud than you say you are!!!" into the big whoop category.

Personally, I'm not sure how to differentiate "moderately" and "extremely/very" proud. Maybe it has something to do with the size of the flag pin you wear.

in the end I think most Americans are proud to be Americans-with the exception maybe of moochelle who was never proud til her hubby got elected prez- I do however, think the 2 sides have a different view of what they want America to be

I'm just curious how the side that gripes continually about everything, especially what they claim America has turned into ... can claim to be more proud of it.

Blind nationalism or the ability to look at the lives, we as Americans, are living - and to look throughout human history and see just how incredible we have it? I guess you can call that blind nationalism if you want, but i prefer to think of it as a profound thankfulness and respect for the less-than-perfect but better-than-everything-else government we have.

"Excessive pride is a vice, because it's just arrogance. So is suppressed pride because it's a forced (and thus false) modesty.
A virtue is the moderation of extremes, of any moral quality. Or so Aristotle tells us."

River, each side is just as guilty as the other of whining, it just depends on who's side is in power. Have you already forgotten the Bush II years? Secondly, even if it were true, what aspect of whining about something indicates a lack of caring?

Yes, we saw it before and im content to say it's irrelevant to this topic and is a different type of pride. Also, i dont think repeating it isn't going to convince anyone.

Agree, a whole lot of whining by the left during the Bush years. But in the middle of liberals complaining how rotten everything was, I don't recall them claiming to be more proud of the country at the same time.

...but don't dare suggest that a liberal/dummy rat is unpatriotic...

(...even though they'll turn right around an question everyone else's patriotism for exactly the same, or worse, than what they were questioned for).

e.g.--"...435 Billion dollar annual deficit is unpartriotic!"--Barry Soetoro, circa 2006.

Was there a poll? Its not like this is some coalition, it was just a poll. I do think it's silly to brag about it, but is it true, and if it is true - is it not worthy of discussion?

As the country goes further down the toilet, the pubs pride will go dowm, the dems pride will go up.

There's a lot of things that have been discussed endlessly on this forum that I am not proud of. By design.

You mean those who voted for O the first time because:

    1). He is pro-life.
2). Wanted to stay in Iraq until the job was done. And
3). Picked Sarah Palin as his running mate.

    Those people?
