As if there was any doubt.

Candidly... I think the number of liberals who love this country is very low. Certainly lower than 76%. I'd guess far less. Certainly the obama junta doesn't like this country... you don't want to fundamentally transform something you love.... Heck... our first lady wasn't proud to be an American until 5 years ago.

In recognition of Independence Day, Gallup has released a poll on whether American citizens are still proud to be American.

Ninety-three percent of Republicans indicate that they are “extremely/very proud” to be American while only 85 percent of Democrats feel the same way.

Eighty-one percent of political Independents indicate they are “extremely/very proud.”

Likewise, 89 percent of poll respondents who identified themselves as conservative are “extremely/very proud,” to be American compared to 76 percent of liberals.

It would be nice to see a poll of those who can name the VP or head of the Senate just to show how uninformed so many "proud" people are.

glad to see all that Republican support for Obama having America a country to be proud of.

Despite Republican claims that Obama is destroying America, accusations that Obama has harmed the moral compass of America. For some reason Republicans claiming to be proud of a country being led by a Dem POTUS just goes to show how bogus the Republican attacks on Obama happen to be.

what would be telling is what same poll showed at the very end of the GWB presidency. and then compare that to the current poll

I love my country (America) in-spite of Obama.

Without Hussein as the Pile in Chief...the numbers of those proud would surely be higher. At least among the pubs.

It is as rick said...the 'country' we are proud of---NOT Obamus Maximus. He is our biggest embarrassment.

the last two posters are making claim(or insinuating) without evidence to support their claim that poll results would be different at end of GWB time in office and that the 'pride' numbers for GOP would be even higher. The only proof of such an argument would be a poll done with same questions asked of the same people as the current poll.

I assert there is strong chance the numbers would be even lower than the current poll numbers. especially if taken a month or so prior to the election of 2008 when the outcome of the Election was still very much in doubt. I refer to right after the economic crash and just prior to McCain making comments regarding the economy).

in any case I view much of GOP pride to be the same sort of pride that is referred to as pride being one of the deadly sins. That GOP arrogance in trying to be more patriotic because they wave the flag more vigorously and claim to be proud Americans. Such claims without doing things that some one who is grateful to be American would do. I find that for the most part that Dems and Republicans are patriotic and do the things on a daily basis to make America better.

"Excessive pride is a vice, because it's just arrogance. So is suppressed pride because it's a forced (and thus false) modesty.
A virtue is the moderation of extremes, of any moral quality. Or so Aristotle tells us."

evidently GOP is proud to be arrogant and having the vice of pride instead of the virtue.

and some examples of the vice of pride doing wrongful things
-justifying the use of torture of an innocent person by a ultra con---and blowing off the wrongfulness because he's a prideful(to the point of it being a vice) patriot---Allen West
-the attacks by GOP upon Duckworth, Clelland, Inouye
-the GOP turning its back on Bob Dole
-impeding the right to register to vote and to vote
-if you want more examples of the arrogance of GOP pride regarding patriotism--I gladly post more

-the same arrogance that was McCarthyism has raised its arrogant, prideful(to the point of being a vice) head in the GOP more and more in recent years.

Great point. Also might have something to do with conservatives' psychotic provincialism. The one people they fear, distrust and dislike more than American "liberals" is.......well......everyone else in the world. It's either that they know Obama is far better than they claim, or their well-established mental problems are on full display. Or both.

I differ. That same sort of attitude is present in both ultra left as well as ultra right.

Namely-the attitude of my way or the highway. Which typically ends up with the result of those with that attitude becoming roadkill. The very nature of being ultra(left, right, etc) is the inability to work with others of differing point of view. And that they are 'proud' of their ultraness to the point of it being the vice of arrogance

You don't want to go there. Check out any pics of the left wing nuts who are always protesting cuts in their government checks and suffice to say, mental illness is rampant.

They simply can not live in a capitalistic society (better to demand their working neighbors pay their bills).

I love America despite our slacker and naracisstic fool for a President.

I would guess that Pubs would be far more likely to know. But I'm sure demos are much more likely to know how to apply for EBT cards and Obama phones. We've seen "unscientific evidence" on Letterman, Leno, O'Reilly and others when they do their "man on the street" questions. Really embarrassing.

I about spit up my coffee again. Can always count on old for a morning laugh with one of his posts. Many of us remain proud and hopeful for America in spite of Obama. We have survived bad Presidents and failed administrations before and I'm sure we will survive his. His second term is a doozy so far. Jimmy Carter is smiling.

Yes, Republicans tend to be more "extreme" in all manner of things.

    I love to sing-a
About the moon-a and the June-a and the spring-a,
    I love to sing-a,
About a sky of blue-a, or a tea for two-a,
    Anything-a with a swing-a to an "I love you-a,"
I love to, I love to sing!

not surprising, as liberals generally don't have the same blind nationalism as conservatives
