Or how many hit by pitch you can garner.
Nice Win. Not sure if UF won it more than UAB lost it. Gators should have not even been in a situation to win it in the bottom of the 7th. Left alot of runners on base.
This team is gritty till the end
Huh? They scored two unearned runs on our defensive lapses.
We have to be leading the SEC in HBP.
I didn't realize the SEC was as good as they are this year. 10 teams in the top 30 or so? Damn strong.
I know we won but the dude behind the plate was not consistant AT ALL.
Thank goodness we won this game. Could you imagine the amount of pressure the team would have had on it tomorrow? Now we can come out and place loose in Game 2.
Lana Campbell is a good little pitcher. If UF had faced her all year long like the SEC teams. They'd had her number already. Watch some film come out tomorrow and run rule them.
The majority of the that teams make it to the WCWS have good, somtimes great pitching. We've won many games due to defense, our pitching and timely hitting as the team ba is not up with the best teams. I wouldn't be surprise if the hitting continues to struggle. Just hope we do as much right as possible.
We have definitely faced some legit pitching in our last few games - Chelsea Thomas, Sara Nevins, this Campbell chick.
But our bats definitely have to wake up because it's not going to get any easier here on out with Renfroe/Traina lurking and some other big-time pitchers left in the field.
But I agree that when you look at some of the lineups left, we are probably in the lower half in terms of offensive ability. But this team continues to battle and get timely hits.
I do not think UAB's starting pitcher was that great. I thought she exploited the very awkward strike zone well, however, because she could throw those out of the strike zone high and tight just fine. Meanwhile Hannah R was not at her best because the ump.was.just goIng to call her best pitches strikes and she is not a high ball thrower. I hope we never see that ump behind the plate again.
We'll get Tennessee again if we win tomorrow.
This team is EXTREMELY young too. We ONLY have 2 Sr's and Jr's. The rest freshmen and sophomores. Look out next year!!
Good win, whew.
Does the softball team have the same hitting coach as the baseball team?
My wife pitched in college. The curve-drop is one of the hardest pitches to hit when it is on. UABs pitcher had it going early on but she started missing more frequently after about the 4th inning. I discussed with my wife why the Gators didn't sit on inside pitches and move up in the box. Get it early in the zone. Little did it in her last at bat. I also mentioned that UAB lost 17 games in Conference USA, so it is obvious that all of their pitchers are not as consistent as their SP was today. Point proven by the second pitcher hitting 2 and walking more late in the game.
This. I was there, right behind the plate.
I love the way this team fights until the end. It's not something you usually see in a team so young but these girls have "IT". My only complaint is also with the homeplate ump. He gave them a strike zone that he didn't give Hannah. It was pretty frustrating for the first 5 innings.
