Last night's selection show indicated that none of the Gainesville Regional will be televised except on ESPN3 (Internet).

After careful and deliberate consideration, something not evidenced by the selection committee, I've decided to reseed the Gainesville regional:

    1 Florida
    3 College of Charleston

    3 North Carolina
    2 Long Beach State

The selection committee in its ultimate wisdom decided to place two 3 seeds in the Gainesville regional. I cite as a confirming source the Perfect Game tourney predictions prior to the release of the full NCAA tourney information. The Gainesville regional is the only regional of the 16 regional sites to have two 3 seeds.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the selection committee for the fine seeding work they did and for once again putting Florida/Miami in a super regional should both advance. The Gator/cane playoff rivalry never gets old.

I don't see having to play Charleston as that big a deal. Many of the 4 seeds have good records in smaller conferences and have a good #1 starter. That's why they won their conferences. Sure, it would have been nice to get a team who upset their way through their conference tournament like Youngstown State or Jackson State, but unfortunately there aren't 16 teams like that out there and geography still plays a role in baseball. Just go out and beat the team in the other dugout.

I think UF was rewarded for SEC play w/ a top 8 seed. Then penalized a little w/ a tough 4 seed for the 21 total losses and some head scratching mid week & early season losses. I will say this regional is a far cry from whats normaly sent to Gville for first round. Should be interesting.

UFs(& UMs) real complaint should be the SEC & ACC reg season champs potentially having to face off in round of 16. Thats basically a #2 seed vs #9-10 seed( UM should of been easy top 8,, top 3-5 IMO. 2 losses in meaningless(for them) ACC-T cost them everything they accomplished reg. sesaon?? whatever.. Just need to seed top 16 as they do in softball.

As far as TV.. Im sure CSS, SUN, FSN, etc will pick up some games. If I recall the BIG10 network televised Indiana Reg. last year.

BTW All Louisiana Final in Omaha, w/ the Rajun Cajuns pulling the "upset"

No. 8 Florida (40-21) will begin its 30th NCAA Tournament appearance beginning Friday night at McKethan Stadium against CAA Tournament Champion College of Charleston (41-17).

The Gators drew the top seed at the double-elimination event and will meet the fourth-seeded Cougars at 7 p.m. on the first day of action. Second-seeded Long Beach State (32-24) of the Big West Conference will tangle with third-seeded North Carolina (34-25) from the Atlantic Coast Conference in the opening game at 1 p.m.

The game can be heard on the Gator IMG Sports Network with Jeff Cardozo and Mick Hubert and on WatchESPN with Trey Bender and Rusty Ensor.

Live stats for each game will be available on GatorZone.com and fans can also follow updates of each game on @GatorZoneBB, the official Twitter account of the Gator baseball team.

    QUICK HITS ABOUT THE GATORS

    · Florida has made the NCAA Tournament in all seven years of Kevin O'Sullivan's tenure, the longest NCAA run in school history.
    · The Gators have been a national seed in five of the past six seasons (No. 8 in 2009, No. 3 in 2010, No. 2 in 2011, No. 1 in 2012, No. 2 in 2014).
    · In its 29 previous Regional appearances, UF had been placed at sites within Florida 22 times (Gainesville-11, Coral Gables-7, Tallahassee-4).
    · All 64 teams preparing for NCAA Regionals have the same destination in mind: TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, Neb., for the CollegeWorld Series. The Gators have reached the “Promised Land” eight times - 1988, 1991, 1996, 1998, 2005, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
    · Florida claimed the SEC Championship with a 21-9 (.700) record, the program’s third league title in the last five years (2010-11-14).
    · The Gators won the program’s 13th SEC title, first since 2011, and emerged on top of the East for their league-best 22nd divisional crown.
    · UF has played the toughest schedule in the nation, as its opponents have a combined record of 2,048-1,248 (.621) entering NCAA action.
    · The Orange and Blue was the runner-up at the 2014 SEC Tournament. After dropping its opener to Kentucky, UF captured three elimination games in a row over South Carolina, Mississippi State and Kentucky before falling to LSU in the final, 2-0.
    · O’Sullivan was voted as the SEC Coach of the Year for the second time, while RHP Logan Shore was tabbed as the SEC Freshman of the Year.
    · Also a first-team All-SEC pick, Shoreis 7-3 with a 1.99 ERA in 15 appearances, making 14 starts, and has struck out 62 batters in 90.2 innings. The righty was 7-1 with a 2.08 ERA in league play, tying for the lead in conference wins.
    · Junior Taylor Gushue (.323, 49 RBI, 6 HR) became the third Gator catcher since 1991 to earn first-team All-SEC recognition (Mario Linares, 1991; Mike Zunino, 2011-12).
    · Sophomore OF Harrison Bader, a second-team All-SEC pick, is hitting a team-best .333 after going a blistering 10-for-19 (.526) in five games at the SEC Tourney.
    · Peter Alonso (first base) and John Sternagel (third base) joined Shore on the SEC All-Freshman Team, as the Gators had the most selections.
    · Florida is 16-6 (.727) in one-run games this season, the most wins in the nation in that category.
    · UF is 7-2 (.778) in extra innings and the most recent was a 6-5 triumph in 11 innings over Tennessee on May 15 in Knoxville.
    · The Gators have established a single-season school record with 20 saves, surpassing the mark of 18 set in 1991, 2010 and 2012. Remarkably, eight different hurlers have recorded a save, with junior RHP Ryan Harris (3-2, 3.00) leading the way with five.
    · Florida is 16-9 (.640) against ranked opponents this season, the most top-25 wins in the SEC.

As far as college baseball goes, it's very unlikely that there'll be any provision for casual, haphazard, unplanned "picking up" of random games by any television network without rights to the telecasts. It simply doesn't work that way. ESPN's family of networks will show all eight Super Regionals, and the CWS. Our region just didn't get selected.

    Some interesting news and notes.

-Logan Shore will pitch Friday against Charleston.
-Charleston will start Taylor Clarke, who's numbers aren't quite as good as Ober's, but has been their Friday guy.
-Aaron Rhodes will be available this weekend, but probably not for a full workload.

    Good call...

    http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20140527/PC20/140529371

"We're going to stay with what we've been doing and go with Clarke Friday night and Ober Saturday and Thornton in game three," Lee said. "I think it's important for our guys to be consistent. We preach consistency with our program, and we're going to stay consistent with what we've been doing all season from a rotation standpoint."

The decision to stick with Clarke wasn't as difficult as some might assume. Clarke's resumes speaks for itself. Clarke, who transferred from Towson after the program was nearly shut down last spring, is 10-3 with a 2.65 earned run average with the Cougars. He has a team-high 85 strike outs and just 22 walks.

"Any time you make a change in your lineup or in your rotation there needs to be a reason to do it," Lee said. "There was just no reason for us to change it. Taylor Clarke has done an outstanding job for us in Game 1s all year long. He won 10 games and he's an all-conference pitcher. I feel like he can compete with anybody in the country. To be honest, it wasn't something that we had to think too hard about."

Clarke also has been one of Charleston's most durable starters, leading the Cougars' pitching staff with 91.1 innings of work. It's a remarkable turnaround for Clarke, considering he missed all of the 2013 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ligament in his elbow.

It worked that way in past, and ESPN had same coverage last year(mostly ESPN3) for sub regionals, and I know Big10 network showed entire Indiana(UF) Reg, I believe CSS was in Tally(CSS no longer an option obv). SunSports has picked up sub regionals in the past.

Now if ESPN tightened the reigns on coverage this year I was not aware, and not surprised. They seem to want to corner the market on everything and w/ a few exceptions do a horrible job of covering. 64 games on Fri. and i believe they are showing 4 of them on one of their 5 TV optios.

As far as Supers & CWS, yes they have been exclusively on ESPN. Supers only recently,, CWS as long as I can remember(early 80s)

Sure hope that you're right. I'd love to see a UF regional game or two without having a laptop, Kindle or cellphone resting on my chest.

Karsten needs to blow it open and turn it loose like he did in his last outing. With Shore and an effective Whitson.. pretty damn formidable 1 2
