FSU is whipping them. That game might be harder than I previously thought.
Should be interesting. Not sure what to make of FSU. I didn't see the game, but looking at the box they held VCU to 29% from the field and 22% from the arc, and outrebounded them by 16. They also committed 25 turnovers (granted, against Smart's relentless press).
Did you really think it is going to be easy?
VCU plays a pretty small lineup. FSU's length gave them some problems. We have length and athleticism. We should beat them without Scottie or Kasey but we get Scottie back we should be in really good shape.
Before FSU played VCU tonight, yeah I thought our game against them was just going to be like last season's game.
If we play the way we played tonight, we won't be losing a lot more games. Middle Tennessee is not a bad team. 4-0 going into our game and a perennial NCAA team. They played 11 deep. We played 7 and we wore their asses out. Our defense was tremendous. First half offense was very shaky, but as the team learned to play without their PG, they played pretty darn good offense. Also Prather getting into early foul trouble certainly didn't help, but he had a very string second half. And they made their free throws. Everybody. Great win.
If it means anything, FSU gave up 75 points to my little Christian College Southeastern in an exhibition.
Didn't we give up almost 90 in our exhibition?
Different teams match up differently, and context (e.g. the O Dome) can be vital depending on the teams (both home and opponents).
Right now, the Gators are extremely thin, having 2 walkons in the top 8. As G8tr80 noted, Having both Prather back and a bit of experience with it, the team played pretty well using PG by committee yesterday. Also, having Patric Young show up and hitting free throws were real benefits.
If Wilbekin can continue his "good" behavior, I think he will likely be back by FSU, which should prove to be a real adrenelin shot in the arm for what is an already pretty good team.
FSU plays Michigan tonight, so we'll get another good look at them.
FSU has 3 7 footers on their roster
Is it 3 7 footers? I thought it was 7 3 footers.
One or the other.
Or 37 footers?
FSU up 10 on Michigan late 1st half
They are putting it to Michigan, which looks like a shell of last year's team without Burke. Miller and Bookert are playing very well on the perimeter and they have some big, physical, athletic dudes in the paint.
Couldn't quite pull off two wins in a row against ranked teams but it took OT for Michigan to get the win.
^^ That, with their round, red noses & big floppy feet all squeezed into one car, lol.
Glad to hear FSU pulled it out!
I saw the end of the second half. For most of the game, FSU had quite a lead (10-15 pts) but could not handle Michigan's trapping defense in the end. I see that Leonard Hamilton still doesn't like to recruit good PG's (favoring stiff 7-footers instead) and players that can handle the ball & pass. FSU had numerous turnovers when they faced ball pressure and that was ultimately their undoing in the end - UF will probably utilize this same strategy against the seminoles!
I hate Michigan - somebody guard Nik Stauskas (26 pts & numerous 3-pointers) and don't leave him wide open (for some reason it brought back bad memories for me). Now those lucky wolverines should know what it is like to be the hunted instead of trying to knock off one of the big boys!
Was it just me or did anyone else find the ESPN announcer predicting (rooting for) a Michigan comeback quite annoying!
I would have liked to see Florida knock off an undefeated FSU in next week's game! Those dumb seminoles!
