I have thought about this game many times, haven't seen it since it was live... a magical night for J Will, Billy and the Gators. The Gators knock off the eventual national champ UK at Rupp, ironically, on a night, their opponent in the final, Utah, lost for the first time of the season as well.

Strangely, it's on a UK site, cant believe they saved that one..kudos to them.

Could Vitale have been more over the top in his praise of Jason W. in this game.

True, but so were all of my Gator hoop buddies. Still to this day, I would have to rank it as the #1 performance by any Gator BBall player that I have seen... on the road, defacto#1, 14 pt dogs and dominate.

Here's a clip of Billy the Kid 4 years earlier.

At the end of this 1994 SEC tournament game (Gators lost to Kentucky). there's an interview with Billy Donovan, who as a Kentucky assistant coach has just accepted the head coaching job at Marshall. He's also beaming about the birth of his daughter. It's at the 1:56 mark.

Dude awesome. I didn't follow Gator basketball then(to be fair, I was 12). I was such an NBA fan though Reggie Miller was my hero because I was a three point shooter too. I didn't start watch Gator basketball till around late 99 when I got tickets from a friends parents to go to a game. I was hooked. I started football in 97 and saw them live...Just imagine the best first game you could go to in Swamp history. I got to see my first live football game since I was 5(in Louisville)...and it was the greatest game ever played in the Swamp. The crowd was so insane I was just in shock and I never looked back...that experience was the greatest sports moment of my life.

Dude, what an awesome find. That's great stuff.

His accent was thicker, and his stomach less so. He looked really young, but his poise and the way he answered questions was exactly the same. You could tell he was heading places. Two years later, he was introduced as head coach at Florida.

A rising star in this business indeed.

Great find! Billy the kid was really just a kid then. As for the game, I remember J Will having a terrific night but man Mills of UK really went off too. Fun game.

I agree, Jason Williams was jaw-dropping good that day, and the team was really beginning to get good. I think that win only put us at 12-8 or so, but the improvement was rapid. We were playing our way into the NCAA tournament until Williams was cut from the team. We sank back to .500 and lost in the NIT first round. Nevertheless, the program had turned the corner.

Williams was clearly the star of that win in Rupp.

It was an impressive win. UK went up 2-0 and then trailed us the rest of the game. They got the lead down to 2 early in the 2nd half, then we pushed it back up to 10+.

After a hectic and stressful week I "crashed" around 9:00 last night and then woke up at 3 am. I got on line and watched this game. Jeez, we had 3 point shooters all over the place back then. Stolt, Weaks, Brent Wright, Eddie, J Will, and even Dan Williams.

Precisely what I was thinking. Just goes to show how outstanding Foley is to hire a baby as the head basketball coach.
