Bluebird day! Warmed up to 9 here today. It warms up enough to get another 6-8" mid week before we go back to a high if 1 late in the week. I love winter, but this is getting old. Kids may lose their minds soon
Supposedly got down to -7 here in Chicago early this morning. Was -3 and breezy when I drove my daughter to the airport. She was very happy to be getting back to sunny California. Probably headed straight to a weed dispensary when she landed.
Got up to 6 today. After a couple days inside, the wife and I strapped on the skis and did a little Nordic, what with the warmth and all.
Right now local time 7:50am in Grand Junction it is 25 degrees, expected high of 43. Sky is crystal clear and roads are clear and dry through the Rockies for the first day of our drive home. We are crossing the mountains by way of Gunnison, over Monarch Pass among others, into Pueblo to pick up I-25 south. Reservation for the night in Dalhart, Texas then on to Austin tomorrow.
Ho hum, another 75 degree day here in the Valley of the Sun. The only issue is air quality. No wind or rain for the past couple of weeks, plus fireworks are legal in Arizona equals a valley that looks more like L.A. on a bad day. Keeps me from really enjoying the weather.
We drove into Dahlhart this evening as the moon, this month's first of two, was rising across an open stretch of plains in the Texas panhandle. A SuperMoon, so called, it hung low on the horizon, softly glowing the dull orange of a low voltage light bulb. Its immense size, unobscurred by trees and buildings was startling, even amazing in the truest sense of the word. We are checked in and Trucker is watching the Texas A&M BB game. Heard him muttering something about a "dumbass." Not asking. Going to read.
Bellingham is one of the coolest towns I’ve been to though. Young, outdoorsy vibe with the San Juan Islands and North Cascades National Park, plus short drives to both Vancouver and Seattle. If you need sun you can take the under three hour drive over the Cascades.
