Top-seeded and two-time defending champion Florida plays Duke in the third round of the NCAA Championships at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex at the Atkins Tennis Center on Friday at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT.

The Gators defeated Marist, 4-0, and No. 23 Georgia Tech, 4-0, to reach the round of 16, while the No. 15 Blue Devils downed Ole Miss, 4-1, and Texas Tech, 4-3, to advance.

Florida, which was won 17 consecutive matches entering Friday’s bout, is playing in the NCAA Sweet 16 for the 30th time in the 32-year history of the event and sports a 26-3 record in this round of the tournament.

The Gators lead the all-time series against Duke, 34-5, but the Blue Devils captured this year’s regular-season meeting, 4-0, at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C. The loss halted the Gator’s overall win streak at 25, dating back to last year when the team lost 5-2 at Stanford on Feb. 12, 2012. That also was the last time Florida dropped the doubles point, which it did on Sunday, as Duke captured wins on courts three and two, with the clincher decided in a tiebreak.

Duke forfeits #3 doubles because not enough players
Cercone and Oyen up 6-1 on court 1, UF down 3-4 on court 2

Duke would have been a tough matchup before the roster got decimated.

Bama and Cal are at 3-3 on all 3 doubles courts. Really want to see them beat each other up today and hopefully UF cruises in singles.
Cal scares me though, they were a team I thought could win it all. If you look at their singles rankings they are more formidable than UF in some regards

Embree/oyen get the doubles point, win 8-1

Bama up 5-4 4-4 4-3

Cal has two singles players in the top ten and 4 in the top 70. Pretty impressive. UF will need Embree and the 5-6 slots to be solid (andbetter doubles play)

Singles just starting, UF takes game 1 on 4 courts

Bama has one doubles win and way ahead o another court. That is good for UF IMO
Of course, last time I got comfortable with UF winning the doubles point and starting to look ahead to a matchup with Cal....he men blew it in singles against Denver last week. Probably should just worry about Duke.

Hitimana takes a forfeit at #6, Embree and Oyen already out to a break. Cercone is down a break.

Bama takes doubles point vs Cal

Great facility at Illinois, and good live cameras on every court. Impressive to have 2 entirematches running at the same time.

Injuries and I believe their #1 player got the boot (she was a top 5 type player)

Jano cruises 6-1
Embree and Oyen still up a break, Morgan even, Cercone down a break

Jano wins 1 and 2 for the third point

Embree, Oyen, and Morgan all take their first sest easily. Cercone loses her first set 3-6

Bama down in the first set on all 6 courts, losing 3 of them already

Oyen and Morgan both one game from clinching the match

Embree down 2-5 in second set. She shouldjust go ahead and forfeit the second set in the future. She does this so often, cruise in the first....get rolled in the second, and finish it off strong in the third

Oyen blows a couple of games and lets Morgan close it out 6-3 6-0

Bama still down but showing some life in singles, forced a third set on court 2 already. At a minimum this match should go on for a while

Pretty easy win - hard to really even gauge how the team looks, aside from perhaps Morgan who was outstanding.

Now that there is a day off between R16 and QF, I don't think a long Cal-Bama match really even helps us. Definitely hoping Alabama can somehow come back in singles though as I think they are far less dangerous despite what the seeds may suggest.

Yeah, IMO Bama is a MUCH easier matchup than Cal. Bama battling pretty well in singles, but I doubt they pull it off. You are right about the day off though, prbably mitigates any benefit to an easy match.

Cal up 3-1, but Bama leads in the third set on 2 courts and about to take the second set on the remaining match

Bama now up a break in 2 of the third sets, and just won a convincing tiebreak to send the final match to the third

I think (Trice Capra) more specifically she got the boot because of cheating or some form of plagarism that took place thus she got kicked out for academic reasons.

Cal closes them out

Clemson takes the doubles point from UGA

USC and Stanford about to start, that should be a good one as well. I predicted UF-Cal and USC-UGA to be incredible semis...let's see if it holds

To very loosely paraphrase Vincent Vega, USC (or anyone but UF) over Stanford is (always) a bold statement.

USC is a pretty heavy favorite....Stanford is only the 12 seed. But looks like Stanford will pull the doubles point, they are still a very experienced team.

Clemson up 2-1 on UGA and all 4 remaining matches could go either way. This whole tourney is going to be a battle royale

Oh I know...I just never bet vs the Cardinal unless they're facing UF.
