We have an excellent opportunity to get back to Atlanta this year...and perhaps beyond. Our defense, even banged up and absent as has been here and there, is still better than any of our opponents.

If we continue to improve on offense, which I believe strongly we will (especially including reducing turnovers), we will win our games.

I love a punishing defense! :halloween:

The defense will keep us in every game. The question is whether or not our offense can win the big games at the end, which is why Hardin needs to step up or Phillps needs to emerge.

Miami and Toledo will be among the best offenses in their respective conferences. Maybe not LSU or Georgia good but it's not like we've played three Tennessees.

What would Miami and Toledo be ranked if they did not play us?

They played our defense. There's give and take when it comes to interpreting stats four weeks in. But Miami and Toledo were two of the most productive offenses in their conferences last year and returned 7-9 starters apiece on that side of the ball.

Our defense hasn't faced an elite offense yet and the closest we'll see to that won't come until the Cocktail Party. But like I said, Miami and Toledo are nothing like Tennessee offensively.

FIU gained 30 total yards vs. Louisville....THIRTY! And only 3 rushing yards.

Their stats will be padded all year because of this one game! Not that they don't have a good Defense, but any D1 football team that only gains 30 yards of total offense probably needs to fold up shop or move down a classification!

    Really?

Toledo has averaged 31 points in its non-UF games.

Miami has averaged 55 points in its non-UF games.

Even UT has averaged 36 in its non-UT games.

Not saying all these teams are juggernauts, but right now it is not clear to me that LSU's O is any better than UM's.

The most impressive thing to me is the quality depth of the defense. They will give us a chance to win every game we play, as long as we score points.

If our offense could even be just average, we have a great shot at getting to Atlanta. Feeling really confident about Murphy.

Right now our most telling stat is how few first downs are made against our defense on third down...we force a lot of teams to punt or go for it on 4th down. I just don't enough Gator fans appreciate how strong our defense is. When we tackle sweep plays or bubble screens...you ALWAYS see four or five Gator tacklers right there swarming to the ball. Our team speed is amazing. Our DL is sick...Fowler, Powell, Easley, Orr, Jacobs, Bullard, Cummings plus steady LB play from Taylor, Morrison, Kitchens, Ball etc etc
Secondary? The very best in the country and deep.

Metty will have a hard time throwing the ball with Easley, Powell, Fowler & company in his face....and the throws he makes could get picked off. LSU doesn't scare me.

That's because they played the Gators in 1/3 of their games. Do you really need to try that hard to in inappropriately minimize our elite defense? Pathetic.

Yes, and those numbers have nothing to do with our defense.
