But if he can get a 12 ft gator to fly around the swamp and land on someone’s arm, that is going to be badass

    Titles always make me laugh:

    "Executive Associate Athletic Director"

So, he's an Associate Director, not a full on one.

The softball fiasco at auburn resulted from the coach having sex with a player. Not exactly the athletic director's fault.

However, the fact that Jacobs hired Bruce Pearl makes the hair stand up on my neck. Pearl is as slimy as they come, and that was well known when Auburn hired him.

The main problem I have with the softball thing is how it was all handled by the administration, not sure how much that falls on the AD. He did hire the coach and allowed him to hire his son even after ASU had banned his son from all non-public places on campus. Sounds like the administration should've known about Corey having inappropriate relations with multiple players on the team. This conclusion from the Title IX investigation just doesn't make sense to me.

Jacobs to step down as Auburn athletic director

When Jacobs had to leave Auburn, I wonder if the baggage he took with him included some compromising pictures of the new AD at UF.

Ha! Or, since an Executive Officer is second in command to a Commanding Officer, maybe he's not even a full-on Associate Director, but rather the backup to one. lol. He's an Athletic Director Twice Removed.

I'll chime in and probably muck up someone's punch. I think the AL sec schools are two of the slimiest in the country (I know it isn't reflected in statistics for Al which seems to be able to avoid any scrutiny). The Auburn AD hired Pearl who has got to be the slime de la slime of coaches. This is a terrible hire.

I agree with this for the most part. But, we did have issues with the Tank Black fiasco back in 1999ish. In fact, SOS came out publicly and said he wanted the players to be permanently disassociated from the program - but Foley stuck up for them. However I’d imagine Foley’s positive reputation with the NCAA is what saved the program from review.

I’m inclined to believe Stricklin knows what he’s doing here

That's what I thought about Foley when he hired Jim McElwain. I thought it could be a really cool hire.

Of course I immediately had second thoughts at his introductory press conference, when Mac referred to UF president Machen as "Bernie," like they were real good buddies already. I thought "this guy is obnoxious." It turned out he was worse than that.

Good point, but as good as Foley was for UF athletics in general, and basketball in particular, his track record in hiring football coaches was dismal. Other than out of pure pessimism (an attitude for which we have plenty of past cause), it’s illogical to assume Stricklin = Foley.
