Other teams don't respect our passing game and are stacking the line and daring us to throw. We need to find a way to take advantage of this, and in turn, that will open up the run game.

While this is true, Alabama averaged 70 yards more per game last year than they have so far.

There are certainly cracks in Alabama's armor this year, but UF doesn't have the QB or the WR to help even this out like Alabama does.

We need to be able to pass the ball effectively to open up the run, teams have been daring us to pass, hopefully we will be able to do so more effectively in the future. I think our WR are fine, they have made some great catches this year

It really isn't the play calling or the line play, to my mind, so much as it is the backs. That's one reason we went to Brown so often on Saturday and why they want to integrate Taylor more. We aren't getting any yards after contact, which you desperately need if you want to run against a plus box. Gilislee did a great job of that last season and we need more of it. Brown isn't as big or physical as Jones, but he is much better at running with leverage and getting to that second level. Those are Taylor's strengths, as well.

need to get the running game going to take pressure off murph. he did a good job managing the game saturday but i don't like the prospect of an inexperienced QB (or any QB for that matter) continually being forced to throw on 3rd and 7 and 3rd and 8, not many good things can happen in those situations.

I don't care where we rank in yards per carry. We have only played 3 games and lost our starting quarterback. The backup came in and won the game for us. That is huge. We'll bust some some big runs eventually that will start to even things up.

What we need is a back with vision and moves yet still goes forward.......we need Kelvin.....at least 10 to 12 carries a game. Jones and Brown are fine for the hammer but they don't know how to chisel. Once you use both the hammer and chisel then the nail (deepball) become very easy to drive home....

Well whatever the solution, given the level of competition, there is CLEARLY a problem that needs to be addressed as the schedule toughens up. Luckily for UF the schedule is light until we reach LSU. After that, things get dicey if UF can't run the ball better.

This is sort of the pat answer, but if you look at the play calling until Driskel got hurt, the play calling is not at fault.

    On first down, UF:

--ran Purifoy wide for 15 yards

--completed 3 of 3 pass attempts for 34 yards (the 10 yard complete to Dunbar was called back for illegal sub.)

    --ran once b/w the tackles

That does not seem to be very predictable.

    On 2nd down, UF:

    --ran once for 2 yards

--threw deep to Dunbar, who almost made catch.

Overall, on UF's first 11 snaps until Driskel was injured

--UF tried to throw 7 times

    --UF ran wide twice

    --UF ran b/w tackles twice.

That seems like a well-mixed set of play calls.

So when people say that defenses do not fear UF's passing game, its not because UF is predictable.

It may be b/c UF's WRs are not a threat to9 make many big plays.

I also worry that the reason UF isn't running well is b/c UF's OL is not blocking well.

The 2 wide runs gained 19 yards, the 2 interior runs gained 2 yards.

As the old saying goes, its not the Xs and Os, its the Jesse's and Joe's...

We have spent so much time arguing here about the QB and the OC, the issue may be with the TBs, the WRs and the OL.

I'd like to see more two back sets with Showers as the second back. When he turns the corner a couple times defenses will have to spread out more to try and contain his speed making the bigger backs' jobs easier. He could also split on those screens.

I like to see more two back set myself. It adds to the blocking and we can always swing one out into the flats. There is so much more we can do in the power game with two backs.

Also, I'd like to see us bring back the 6 man line we used effectively against LSU to gain running yards.

As others have said, they can load the box with 8 or more till we can prove that we can pass effectively. Once that happens, our YP/A will increase significantly.

Both our main backs have really bad instincts either setting up their blocks or finding the hole. Both guys are basically just putting their heads down and running straight ahead into a pack of defenders stacking the box.

Right now it seems like Mack is a better option because he runs hard and breaks a couple of tackles. Jones seems to be running right into defenders and falling on first contact.

I'm really hoping Kelvin Taylor picks it up because we're going to need him if we're going to generate some explosive plays in the run game.

The back discussion is played out, but teams stacked the box against us last year and we had a 1200 yd back and were near the top of SEC rushing offenses with pretty much the same quality OL.
