the painful thing is its impossible to argue wtih anything he wrote.

    It's a nice program. A good program.

They win more than they lose. They go to bowl games. From what we know, they do it fairly. And cleanly. They seem to have good kids, and their coach seems like a good man.

Yep, there's a whole lot to like about the University of Florida football program.

    Like I said, it's a good program.

Know what it isn't? An elite program. Not at this moment.

No longer is Florida up there with the likes of Alabama, Oregon and Ohio State. Or even LSU and Stanford.

When it comes to college football, you have elite teams and then a few teams hovering near the top. Keep going if you hope to find Florida on that list. It's now in that kinda-good category with programs such as Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

Programs in that category win a big game every now and again, and maybe have a cup of coffee in the Top 10. But mostly they just beat mediocre teams and lose to really good teams. As far as national championships, forget it.

Florida isn't the best team in the SEC anymore. Not even close................

This is what scares me about our current state of football.

As we continue to struggle and the losses pile up, we lose ground to our in state rivals UM and FSU as they pass us. That trickles down to loss of recruits and revenue. That's why if this thing is going to be corrected by our coaching staff, it needs to happen ASAP or the farther we fall.

We played in a BCS game LAST year!

We're definitely not elite now, but what makes a team like Ohio State elite?

Ohio State hasn't played a top 10 team in two years. Florida is 4-2 against top 10 teams the last two years.

It's always cyclical. Anybody that thought we would be a top 10 team every year until the end of time wasn't thinking rationally. Bama won't, LSU won't, oregon and Stanford most certainly won't. Stanford just lost to a team worse than either of our losses.

And just like fsu and um didn't stay down for long, we will be back in the top 10 more often than not sooner than later

lol we were extremely fortunate to play in a BCS gm last year with some of those close games, including that Lousiana Lafayette game. And then we got dominated by Louisville. Think we better get used to it in the meantime

I think word choice matters here. We're clearly not an elite "team." That's different than not being an elite "program." The latter word encompasses more than just the quality of the team on the field at a given moment.

The fundamentals that make UF such a strong program are still there, though one can squint and see how they made start to degrade if things don't turn around soon. Facilities are still excellent, the athletic program is still minting money, the athletic department is still one of the best in the country and we're still located smack dab in the middle of some of the richest recruiting grounds in the country.

Can those advantages be squandered? Sure. But three bad years in four doesn't get you nearly to that point.

2011 was an inherited CF. He doesn't deserve blame for that.

The coaching job Champ did last year is one of the best in CFB history, IMO. 4-1 against top 10 teams, with a piecemeal mostly injured OL, first year QB and no productive wide receivers.

    This.

I'm not gong to indulge. If Florida wasn't an elite school for football we wouldn't be recruiting top classes year after year. Lazy journalism making one link and selling it as a bonafide situation...
