Wanted to give this its own separate thread as it's a pretty big deal. There's not a whole lot of detail right now, but per Kevin Brockway on Twitter:

Brockway being Brockway there are no specific quotes or details, and "kinda" isn't terribly helpful. And obviously a denial by Billy at this point doesn't mean the three of them are actually in good standing. For that matter, "ready to go forward and practice with team" could still mean some missing games.

Still, we've all been working under the assumption that these guys will be out for some time at the beginning of the season, so it seems worthwhile to point out that may not be the case.

I watched the presser. I think he means Billy "kinda" dismissed the report of the suspensions, only saying that all three were available to practice. He didn't specifically address the report of suspensions.

I am listening to the Donovan press conference now. What he actually said was, "Our guys right now, everybody but Will Yeguete, everybody but Eli Carter is ready to practice and going forward on our team."

Here is a link with a transcript below,

    http://www.gatorzone.com/story.php?id=26437

but if you listen what I typed above is what he said. Notice everybody included Wilbekin and he did not rule anyone out or in. So I would say he skirted the question and we still don't know.

It sounds to me like he was addressing practice, which says nothing about potential suspensions.

Scottie is cleared to practice with the team, doesn't mean he is playing in the games. We know is going to be suspended for a few games at the beginning this season.

When was it reported they would be suspended, and by who?

Sorry if I'm late to the party but I've not seen where this was reported.

what is the difference between Scottie's suspension, which was quite public and the other 3 guys which has never been officially acknowledge by the coaches or university?

If they got caught smoking weed and have to sit out 3 games as some have speculated (10% of the season for a first offense), would the suspensions have been acknowledged but without a reason, due to florida privacy laws

    So this is a rumor?

Why would the school announce Scottie's suspension but not these guys? Double secret suspension.

Just asking, seems inconsistent. Wondering where it came from.

Coach Sayer still around these parts?

Wilbekin did something serious enough to risk his place on the team. Thus he was separated from the team for a time. No one suggested that the other three did something this serious. Whether weed or missing class or whatever, players in various sports are suspended without missing practice all the time. Such suspensions usually become public at the time the player misses the game(s).

Correct...just like Scottiw is good to go for practice, but will miss games...suspensions will be announced when season starts, or a day or 2 before...I have been told to expect the suspensions FYI

Because the school's disclose of a player smoking weed would violate the privacy laws. Whatever got Scottie did to get him in Billy's doghouse did not.

    That's a confusing statement.

Wasn't Scottie's suspension announced after the season? They didn't announce what he was suspended for, just that he was suspended.

I wouldn't expect these other players' transgressions to be revealed either because of the same privacy laws. You can announce a suspension without revealing what they did.

I'm not in denial, it seems there is enough smoke hanging over this, at least on GC, that there is probably fire somewhere.

The drug testing is part of a program instituted and run by the University/AA, and as such it's workings are covered by the Buckley Amendment. Billy's rules, however, are not.

And as for Brockaway, that's a very typical article for him. You end up knowing less after you read it than when you started. But this is the guy that has an article in today's paper that repeatedly refers to a meniscus as a ligament.

If Billy wasn't joking, he said DFS could be the backup PG to start the season. This kind of implies he is not suspended.

To me that implies Finney-Smith's suspension will be shorter than Wilbekin's. I think that was what most people guessed.

The dominant verb in this discussion "implies," which I suspect in turn also "implies" that this entire thing is a mystery right now and Donovan wants to keep it that way.

Well it would be nice if they aren't suspended. If Frazier ends up testing positive for mono, we need all available hands on deck (as if that wasn't already the case).

Edit: Shwoo! So Frazier is negative for mono based on late Thursday night reports. Good news, indeed!
