You can't be grabbing the WR when he's trying to run his route. That absolutely throws off the timing...which is why the ball sailed over his head. Heck, even if the QB threw the ball on the other side of the field, it would have still been holding on the defense.

And if you're seriously saying the second PI call in the endzone could have gone either way, then you don't understand the rule at all. It was textbook interference. No question.

I'm not going to defend the fumble because even IF that was the right call, the refs blew how they handled it.

There is no room for human error in football refereeing. Any ref who botches a call like that deserves a public beating and immediate firing without pay.

On the first PI, the receiver put his hand on the DB and the DB pushed the receiver's hand off. The receiver initiated the contact, not the DB.

Mike Davis should be suspended for this. (but hey, at least it wasn't targeting)

Few referees catch that though. After the WR stuck his hand out, the DB was definitely jostling with the WR and that got caught.

Big 12 covers for their officials!!

A release from the Big 12 Conference says its officials in the Texas-Iowa State game were correct in ruling Longhorns running back Johnathan Gray did not fumble on a disputed call Thursday night.

Late in the fourth quarter with Texas trailing by six points, Gray was stopped short of the goal line and an Iowa State player emerged from the pile with the ball. The play was reviewed to determine if the Cyclones should be awarded the ball.

"On this play, the covering official ruled the runner was down and still had control of the ball," the statement from Walt Anderson, the Big 12 supervisor of officials, said. "There is no question the runner ends up on the ground, and there is no question that eventually an Iowa State player ends up with the ball. However, after reviewing the video evidence it is impossible to tell with certainty when the runner loses control of the ball and at that point was he down or not."

ISU got screwed plain and simple.....first by the blown call, then by the conference review board for officials.

    Pathetic.

Wow, I don't see how they could come up with that if they really reviewed the tape. The defender starts running the other way before the runner is down, did they think that the ball just magically teleported into his hands after he started running?

And now they reprimand Rhoads! They also reprimand Davis who tried to destroy the knees of the ISU player.

IRVING, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference has publicly reprimanded Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads and Texas receiver Mike Davis.

The conference reprimanded the two on Saturday following Texas' 31-30 win at Iowa State two days earlier.

Rhoads complained about a ruling concerning a near-fumble by Texas' Johnathan Gray late in the game. Iowa State's Jeremiah George grabbed the ball and began running the other way, but officials awarded Texas possession. The Longhorns scored the winning points two plays later.

Rhoads says his view "showed a guy who was not down and our guy with the football."

Davis' reprimand came after he illegally hit Iowa State defensive back Mike Broomfield in the knees on a third-quarter play. Davis was penalized for a personal foul.

Commissioner Bob Bowlsby says Davis broke a rule "prohibiting physically abusive acts toward an opponent's team members during a contest."
