Some of that yes. Some schools recruit Alabama but its the culture here. I mean kids are brought up on Bama or Auburn football. There is nothing else and the kids live it. In Florida, you are raised to like a team among a dozen or so teams. And you have how many pro teams in various sports?
The problem with Florida football is offense. Kids aren't in love with our offense and even offensive linemen want to play for teams that play more of the NFL style. I think we can recruit well but until we get out from under Meyer completely and play better offense, we aren't going to recruit well on the line. Not as well as Alabama. Alabama has sent more offensive linemen to the NFL than we have in recent years. Outside of the Pounceys, only Hurt was drafted. 3 offensive linemen in the last 9 years while Bama sent 9. Bama's recruiters bring up some big names and bam they get that 5 star recruit. What's our pitch? Play for a team that ranks near the bottom half of every offensive category? We are supposed to be a power offense but we rank dead last in yards per rush in the SEC. Not even Top 50 in rushing, which is supposed to be our strength.
I have no idea how to fix our problems but until we fix the offensive line, forget the playbook. Murphy is a dead kid against good defenses which we play a lot of from now on.
