IMO, the only way we lose is turnovers and bad special team errors. If the team plays solid football and protects the ball Florida will win. Depth, Defense and Rushing offense is much better. This Miami team is no where close to what they were.
I get the same feeling, I posted a link in another thread to a Gainesville Sun article where Kyle Koehne comes out and predicts that Matt Jones is going to have an "awesome debut," I think they have seen him in practice, they know what UF is about to unleash.
I think both Jones and Kelvin Taylor have 50+ yard runs in this game, Matt in the first half, Taylor late after UM is whipped, just like Jones' TD run last year v FSU...
I am not sure we can learn much from ECU and Miami's game vs FAU. But UF should control both lines of scrimmage and thus when against Miami. Miami does have the talent to win the game though
Actually, FAU went vanilla tonight in preparation for their next game with USF.
Agreed. We are too physical and disciplined for Miami. It would be a heart braking loss but I don't see it happening.
One thing that is hard to fix overnight is defense. If Miami struggled last year which it did, it is going to struggle this year. There is no pixie dust that can fix it. FAU is not good and Miami allowed 133 yds rushing. I think Florida can run through them. This Miami defense is no where near LSU or even FSU quality. Sure Morris will have success at times but I feel good about the defense and our ability to stop them.
If you ever get a chance to get to Greenville on a fall Saturday...It is a GREAT place to see a mid-major football game. That small town breathes purple. ECU is a nice program.
Been there several times and you absolutely correct. There is something to the song "Carolina Girls".
Tilly ECTC's best year was probaby 1983 or 1984. Their three losses were to FSU, Miami and Florida by a combined 11 points.
Pat Dye and Ed Emory had alot to do with lying the gound work for Pirate football. Pound per pound it is the best football program in North Carolina IMO.
They should have never let Logan go. They have been in a bit of a decline since joining CUSA but still a great place to catch a game. It seemed like every year they would knock off a VT, WV, or UNC back in the day.
NC State as well, been to a few ECU games at Carter Finley in the 80's. That is a fun rivalry. Funny one was when they played and smacked Miami in Raleigh due to a hurricane and they stormed the field and tore down NC State's goal post, classic. ;-)
I had just been transferred there the week of the hurricane. I couldn't go to the game because I had to deal with the hurricane fallout. I had lived my whole life in Florida and never been hit by a hurricane. First week in NC and it nearly blew out the windows of the hotel I was staying in.
My cousin an NC State fan is a cop and was sent to Greenville to help the town. At the same time ECU was trashing NC State's field. He was not too happy. A modern day Pirate raid.
One of my managers came to my motel at 1am and said his stores windows had been blown/broken out. So we went to the store and grabbed a couple shotguns out of lock up and guarded the front door until the morning.
I have always said there are two programs in this state that love football. State and ECU (App state too, on a different level) But ECU would be the best fit if the SEC expanded to NC. They are passionate, knowledgeable football fans first. Its the only school that puts hoops on the back burner.
UNC has a beautiful stadium, in an amazing setting...but the fans are flat out terrible.
ECU's gameday can rival some of our SEC brethren:
