...will not receive the money typically paid to cover funerals etc.

5 total: typically the government wires funds within 36 hours of death so families can pay for burials, etc.

Putting aside partisan politics and federal statutes, this is despicable and should embarrass us all.

It is a shame. Maybe you guys will think about these things next time you want to shut the government down.

I'm not one of "you guys" but I have to ask, if someone's employment is deemed "essential" why are not any benefits that flow from such essential employment. For example, if the soldiers were injured and not killed, would they not receive medical treatment? Death benefits should be no different. Eggshell-skull. Can't cherry pick what part if a benefits package an essential employee gets, it all flow from the essence.

Essential employees aren't actually getting paid, they are merely eligible to work for IOUs. Active duty troops are a bit different because of the pay bill, but that only funded salaries themselves to be paid I believe.

again, it's ugly. but this is the kind of stuff that happens in a shutdown. despite all the claims otherwise, it happened in previous shutdowns.

Sadly some cant see how a shutdown hurts the people of
this nation while politicians just want to use it to keep their own job

So furloughed workers get back pay for not working, and essential workers work for IOUs? Seems a distinction without a difference while the country suffers.

Maybe you should take more seriously this warning about what will happen if you bankrupt this country.

Why can't the family members of these Soldiers killed in action use the $400,000 SGLI life insurance policy they had?

Are you now going to state the pittance they would receive for burial expenses is more than the $400,000 life insurance policy?

Come on. No one is this stupid. This money will get paid once this is over.

    Big.

    To.

    Do.

    Over.

    Nothing.

Killing the patient so he wont get sick later isnt much of a plan

We have gone years in debt and still alive. Defaulting in a matter
    of days is beyond stupid

That's horse $h!t. If a pencil pusher in Washington D.C. dies he gets all his/her money. And they're not even putting their lives on the line for our country. This is the type of games that really make people get fired-up about this jackass in the WH.

besides that... OUR MILITARY PEOPLE ARE ESSENTIAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES... and they have been through-out all previous government shut-downs. Obama is playing games with people's lives... again.

you don't have a clue what's been done before or how it works. we've been thru this since the shutdown started with claims from conservatives that none of this has ever happened before.

Compromise doesnt include holding the nation hostage

Many knew stopping the bill wasnt going to happen but here we are.

Blaming a guy who will never seek office again so he wont
    be elected again is brilliant

The health bill has many Republican ideas in it yet the
hate is stopping all common sense.

Has the house done anything but fight Obamacare.

Maybe making the nation better would sell better come election time

Dude, you have already been corrected on this once: The total amount in the CR is the amount Boehner said he had to have and Obama and the democrats reluctantly agreed to it - they already compromised and Boehner couldn't produce. Quit repeating mindless BS.
