    Yea!!! It's about freakin' time.

Per multiple reports, Wanetta Gibson, the woman who falsely accused linebacker Brian Banks of rape when they were both students at Long Beach (Calif.) Polytechnic High School, has been ordered to repay $2.6 million in damages related to the $1.5 million she received from the Long Beach School District in a 2007 lawsuit, claiming an unsafe environment.

She already spent all the money and lives off the taxpayers now.

So I guess all rape isn't legitimate rape. A NJ woman just confessed to a false accusation of a man convicted of another rape.

Just like any other crime, not all accusations are true. Not all convictions are correct.

He's means an innocent man's life was ruined by overzealous idiots in the community and courts that believed her lie.

I believe he's referencing that guy who ran for the Senate in Missouri, who by using the term "legitimate rape" had the affront to imply that some women lie about being raped for a host of reasons. That guy was excoriated by both the left and right for using the term. The fact of the matter is false accusations are a taboo, and even when they are determined to be false, they are rarely prosecuted.

Note that in this case, the criminal bearer of false witness is not being charged within the justice system and does not risk being imprisoned the way the (real) victim was. The Duke lacrosse case is another example of prosecutors deciding not to take an obvious false accuser to the mat. In the military, I've seen four instances of false accusations that were likewise not prosecuted or even investigated; when the liar was found out, the military merely stopped action against the victim. And in cases such as these, what the general public hears is that four rape victims came forward, and the military failed to prosecute. Heaven forbid we call a liar a liar. The only excuse I've heard for failing to deal with criminals like these is that it discourages real victims from coming forward. In my experience, it only encourages more false accusations.

Good lord, what a gut-wrenching tale. I certainly hope that Ms. Gibson has a miserable, miserable life. I wish her nothing but the worst.

i believe his statement that women could not get pregnant from legitimate rape was the real issue.

Not enough. She should have to serve two days in prison for every one he did. And THEN figure out how to pay back the 2.5 mil.

This is what everyone found so outrageous. I fail to see it. The IMPLICATION here is that some women do in fact claim rape when it is consensual, hence the legitimate rape term. He may or may not be wrong, I don't know. He is stating what he understands from doctors, which could be correct or not. But the implication is clear.

The issue is that this is definitely not the state of the science. In fact, some data suggest that incidences of rape are more likely to result in pregnancy than consensual intercourse. There are no accepted biological ways to "shut the whole thing down". So in effect, he is using unfounded scientific claims to accuse every woman who becomes pregnant from rape of lying about that rape. I hope you understand why this was so offensive.

Rape should be punishable by death, but false accusers should receive the same penalty.

You're misunderstanding me. I get that Akin was talking about pregnancy and abortion, etc. But he used the term "legitimate rape" instead of just "rape." I was addressing that particular aspect of it.
