I'm using a Linksys-G 2.4 GHz 54Mbps and I need to extend the range. Should I get an add on 'range extender' of some type or should I just get a new N router? Would that give me significantly better range? Thanks.

Ended up ordering ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router. It was highly rated for range. Hope that is proves to be true.
