Referenced on the SportsCenter thread, here's Mark Titus' comments about UF in Grantland's weekly power rankings (we're 11):

Ha. I talked about this after the UConn loss. It takes us weeks to pick up a couple spots in the polls, but a 1 point loss @UConn and we drop 4 spots. Just like we dropped 5 after the 6 point road loss to Wisconsin. Pollsters hate UF and have for many years with Donovan. They love to drop us and it is like pulling teeth to get back up. All the while, other teams only movr a spot or two for similar losses and move up quickly as they win. Not UF.

It's a good thing there's a committee that usually respects and seeds us pretty high unlike the bias media.

That's the thing I love about the polls in basketball. Bunch of malcontents can keep you from winning it all.

Anyone who likes college hoops should read Titus. He might be the most knowledgable writer out there, and he's funny.

Usually I read that "everybody loves Donovan" and now I'm reading people "hate" Donovan. Which is it??

Well, maybe there is no "everybody," but individual writers or broadcasters with different opinions.

This guy gets it..."The Gators are loaded with talent, they're led by a senior quartet that has been to three straight Elite Eights, and they have one of the best coaches in the game."

I think BD is highly respected and liked around the country, by most media types. It's okay that pollsters didn't have us higher than 19th...a lot of 'em are just uninformed as to who has what, when they lost, to whom they lost, and why they lost. And some ARE informed, but base rankings on where a team is at that particular moment, not their upside. A win over Memphis and we'll be back in the top 10, and climbing.

Love reading Gator love, thanks for posting.

I don't understand why we are ranked below KY. We lost on the road, not at neutral sites, on very tough environments. But whatevs, we have to win, that is all there is to it. In the seniors I trust, they look very hungry for a FF. They are playing HARD. And when Hill figures it out, and Walker joins and melds with the team we should be in outstanding shape.

And yes, KY has more raw talent, but that doesn't equate to winning it all in college basketball. You need leadership, and FL has talent and leadership.

Means nothing. All we have to do is reach the Big Dance, then we have our opprotunity to go as far as we wish.

I think Billy is one of the most liked and respected coaches in the game. But we don't get the respect we deserve as a traditional power for a few reasons...

    1) We had a bad 3 year run there after the back-to-backs.
    2) We lost quite a few seniors last year.
    3) We didn't sign an NBA lottery pick as freshman. (Like Wiggins.)

So the pollsters don't give us the benefit of the doubt. It's no big deal. But IMO Billy definitely is loved and respected.

I doubt pollsters hate UF. I doubt that they have any emotion toward us. This "lose and drop" MO applies to basically every team. Check out this article from Ken Pomeroy:

Everyone respects him knows he is top 3 coach if not #1.

I doubt anyone stats anything negative about Billy the Kid. Even SEC coaches like the guy because he really is all class. Media doesn't hate us, we lost twice and dropped it's how it is. We beat Memphis(and man I feel good about this one) tuesday, we are in most polls top 12 at least next week. We should be hire because we are finally near full health and if we do beat another top 15 team in Memphis back to back top 15 wins shows just how good we are with the roster in tact. Doesn't matter. As long as we handle our business in conference play, we are still very much in play for any seed right now.

The AP said we were the 5th best 2 loss team before this win over Kansas. Wisconsin plays only one ranked team (depleted UF) and wins that game by only 6 at home and they're up 14 spots since then. In fact, they went from 20th to 12th for beating #11 UF at home by 6. We just beat #13 KU by 6 at home. We shall see where UF shakes out. If it holds true with Wisconsin, we should be 11th-12th.

But Wisconsin was undefeated, no? I think we've played a tougher schedule, but especially this early in the season, that loss column is important to pollsters.
