I've been thinking about getting more into recruiting, and was wondering if anyone uses ESPN's insider services to follow it. It seems relatively cheap, and I hate Rivals, so I figured it might be the best way to go.

I have been an "Insider" on every Gator service out there and my honest assessment is that too often you are paying for someone's opinion and they still can't tell you certain things because they have to keep respect various confidences.
They do the best they can with the information they can provide.

I decided to do it a few months back and I honestly don't think it's worth it. They don't tell you much more than you can find in Awesome Recruiting.

    This.

I don't think ESPN insider is worth it as compared to other sites. Most of ESPN "insider" stuff can be found somewhere else for free. If you get a sub at a Gator site, you'll get some insider info specifically on UF.

Agreed, stick with the Gator sites. ESPN insider has been a nice advantage for fantasy football though

Overall I think it's worth it but if you're doing it solely for recruiting then no

The people who follow the recruiting and post on here and do just as good of a job as the "insiders." AZ does a good job, and for me i get all the info i need from reading his stuff.

Thanks fellas, I'll consider the input. I'm a year around sports guy, so it may be worth it just for that.

Look for special offers on a subscription to ESPN Mag. Once you subscribe, you get Insider as part of the subscription. I read more about NFL than recruiting but I like the content across all sports and the Picks Center data is useful for the occasional wager.

For instance, discountmags.com has offered the Magazine for as low as $10 per year. Once it gets delivered, you use the code from the mailing label to sign onto Insider.

I have done this for the past 4 years and rarely read much of the actual magazine (which ends up in the waiting room of my office).

As others have said, ESPN is not the best at recruiting. IMO, the more specialized sites do a better job. I think they vary by team though. For Vol stuff, I think that Rivals still has the best site but I know that some Rivals team sites blow. You just need to find a crew that is good for your team.

They have specials a lot where you can get ESPN mag for $4.99 a year. That comes with Insider. I use insider a lot, and never read the magazine.

I use it the most for MLB, but there are lots of insider articles I read across the different leagues. They have some pretty cool gambling tools you can mess around with as well

It's not very good, but I've had it for years.

What I do is wait for one of those Get 6 issues of ESPN: The Magazine deals for $5 or $10 and it comes with 1 year of Insider. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for both the crappy magazine and the super crappy insider service.
(edit: I see that was mentioned already)

He does do a good job-particularly for someone who claims to have no inside access to anything. And he doesn't spin it from a pro-Gator point of view.

Too often guys like Abolverdi and Aschoff would blow smoke before signing day, only to strike out with wrong picks over and over again. AZ gives it to you raw.

With ESPN insider you get access to all of the insider stuff. The NBA content is especially good since they stole all of the Basketball Prospectus guys.
