OK, not quite. At least not yet. There's some skepticism about the claimed performance. But we'll know soon, supposedly.

But the claims include 1018 horses, 0-62 in 2.8 seconds, 190 MPH top speed, 372 miles on a single charge.

I put it in TH in anticipation of an electric car pee-pee match. But that's not really why I'm intrigued. As the inventor himself says, environmental concerns aren't his motivation. He believes electric motors are superior to IC, full stop. And if he can pull this off, he may be right.

I'm interested to see what you guys think.

And how much does that "electric" car cost? I must have missed that part in the article.

Dunno, but if it's less than 2 mil, it's cheaper than the Bugatti.

They're taking orders for the first (maybe only) 88 for a cool $1M each. But considering that they have more or less called out the Veyron, that's quite the deal. As exiled says, Veyrons are ~$2M each.

They delivered the first one in January of last year and plan to complete 15 or so a year. So by now there should be 15 or so out there. Supposedly there are still some left. Hard to believe, they haven't sold all those $1M cars yet!

Let's get you in one of those bad boys!

It's going to be interesting if we ever see a transition to this, at least from a performance standpoint. More important, the adaptation to a completely different concept in terms of performance. No transmissions, no "revviing up", just instantaneous acceleration and deceleration.

If any of you are Top Gear (the real one) fans, you probably remember this (Bugatti Veyron top speed test) gem. For those to aren't familiar, enjoy. Very badass segment where James takes it out on the VW test track in Germany. 240. No sweat. Like a Cadillac at 70.

Oh, and it has an innovative safety feature--no rear window. So the cops have to shoot you from the side or front.

    Hot enough now??

That feature will run it way past $1M, guaranteed.

Indeed. If this car is legit then it pretty much dispels the "golf cart" notion of electric car performance. I certainly don't have the knowledge to confirm, but one of my favorite conspiracy theories is the supposed suppression of electric cars over the years. From a layman's view it has always seemed to me that electric cars shouldn't have the limitations that we've been assured they have.

And I'm not necessarily a superfan of electric cars or anything. It's just illogical to me that certain technologies never advance, or do so at a pace that flies in the face of virtually all other technologies. Cars (IC) have been that way for quite some time.

I mean have you enjoyed your Blu-ray player? Good, me too! Because that crap is obsolete. Your sweet 1080p 3D (grrrr--must kill 3D!) TV? Well mount it in the guest bathroom because it's a goner too! Me and Jerry Jones still rocking the flip phone--so 2000's! Your kids need book money? No they don't, they need beer money! Half the schools in the world are all electronic media now (and talk about milking a money grabbing scam for all it's worth.)

I'm even typing this on one of those laptop thingies. How quaint!

I agree. And, oddly enough, my opinion is formed by a buddy's RC cars back in the 80s. The electric ones smoked the gas powered ones in every way. Quicker, better handling, etc. The battery packs were placed in a way that gave it a perfect center of gravity and when you hit the "gas" it just zoomed away and hit top speed in a matter of seconds.
