I'm glad there is no bond set.

So do you actually care if it was a valid application of the statute? Or is every defensive gun use per se wrong for you? There was no duty to retreat even before SYG, and the right to use lethal force isn't altered by SYG -- still have to reasonably believe you are in imminent danger of death or grievous bodily harm. So what does SYG specifically do that upsets you so much.

He wants people to be victims.

Well, he wasn't given bond. We'll have to see where this case goes from here. On its face, though, it doesn't look like a legit SYG case. At least there is a surviving victim that will hopefully be able to state his side. The dead due was shot 17 times! I smell murder 2.

The guy was black, though. So, maybe the killer has a good chance to walk.

If roles were reversed this case would be easy to solve...lock up the black guy.

the problem here and the main reason why this wont be news is because the shooter isn't white and is a security officer at a skript (pacman voice) club.

Zimmerman is a normal Jewish name so the media jumped all on white man shoots and kills black kid and when it was found that Zimmerman wasn't white they went oops...

The guy got arrested after he killed another human being. In Sanford Zimmerman walked free.

umm isn't Zim in jail awaiting trial?

Either way the law needs to be rewritten, because the only thing you have to say is that you fear that your life is in danger

You're didn't answer Michi's questions. Why do you "smell murder 2"? What's Leatherman got to say about this one?

I'm very skeptical of the killer's story. The judge wouldn't have held him without bond if the prosecution didn't think his story was a lie.

So if I understand the OP correctly, if the SYG law was not in place this shooting would never have happened?

I believe the gun nuts have increased strapping since SYG has been implemented. They now have a ready made excuse if their trigger finger gets itchy.

Actually, though, I really think there is much more to this story than meets the eye and the shooter knew the victims. Just a guess. They have a survivor, so we'll have to get his side of the story.

Understanding Chomp is quite an undertaking. I'm not even sure it's worth it.

the only thing that is questionable is how it wasn't scUM football players who were shot at the strip club

For those that did not read the story, the two guys shot were at a strip club, rolling marijuana cigarettes in their truck and the security guard hears them talk about killing someone and he thinks the someone might be him. It wasn't like these guys were at a bible study. They were not reading bible verses. They were at a strip club smoking hootch. Did the security guard over react? Yes. Should he have called the police? Yes. But I doubt these two cats were Eagle scouts.

Agreed. If you dislike someone, you can intentionally provoke that person and when the react in any way (even a comment) gun them down. It's a free pass to murder. I have no clue why anyone, including most conservatives, would support the law. It was proffered by the NRA, who strongly encouraged Florida legislators to pass it.
