Apparently some conservatives think that some government handouts are better than others.

    http://www.inquisitr.com/1306559/du...-handouts-of-70k-per-week-estimated-for-cast/

The Duck Dynasty producers, as well as the Robertson family members who star in the show, soak up hundreds of thousands of dollars in government handouts from the state of Louisiana every year.

One industry insider estimates that the Duck Dynasty cast, which is paid $200,000 per week to appear on the popular reality show, receives government benefits of $70,000 for every episode of the A&E cable show from the state, even though Louisiana recently slashed funding for health care programs and pension programs for public employees such as police, teachers, and firefighters.

The handouts are part of Louisiana’s incentive program for film and TV productions, a program which began in earnest in 2002 and which has earned the state the nickname “Hollywood South.” Dozens of film and TV projects shoot there, to collect the generous taxpayer-backed subsidies, which cover about 30 percent of a film or TV show’s production costs in Louisiana.

Louisiana recently did a study that found only 15 cents of economic benefit for every dollar spent by state taxpayers are used to prop up Hollywood productions, including reality shows such as Duck Dynasty.

That helps to explain the influx of Louisiana based reality shows that seemed to really boom a few years ago.

Instead of debating why this group or that group should get the government largesse perhaps we can all agree to cutting off 80% of all government largesse, which will:
    * End the incessant debating about what to do with the Trillions of funds
    * Eliminate much of Congress' and DC's power
    * Incentivize a high proportion of our nation to fend for themselves and not look to DC
    * Allow most Americans to keep the money, formerly sent to DC, in their pockets to use as they see fit.

FWIW, I think it's pathetic for the State of LA to be sending these guys $70,000 a pop.
I think it's pathetic for Sam Donaldson to own a sheep farm in New Mexico and get paid to do that too.
I think it's pathetic for my brother-in-law in Iowa to get paid NOT to grow crops.
I think it's pathetic for the government to bail out AIG (among others) who made foolish bets, creating a moral hazard
I think it's pathetic to incentivize women to have children without being married.
I think it's pathetic to create an unsustainable Ponzi scheme (Social Security), rob it of it's funds, and then pontificate how rich people should "give back" because the politicians robbed us blind.
Those of us who want limited government agree w/ the OP because human nature is "take, take, take..." for the most part which will bring us down, down, down as politicians will reward those who fund them.

The people who should care are the people always complaining about government handouts - a.k.a. conservatives, a.k.a. Duck Dynasty's target audience.

Monetary incentives for businesses = Gov handouts? ok.

In that case a vast majority of successful large businesses are "on the gov tit" lol.

But didn't you know....libs speak for everyone. Because they know more than anyone else, and what is best for everyone else--and if you don't believe it, just ask one. :p

Of course. But why do all hardcore liberals hate small successful businesses? Jealousy?

When a government gives someone $1 and only gets $0.15 in return, wouldn't you call that a handout?

I've never known a hardcore liberal who hates small successful businesses, so you'll have to get your answer elsewhere.

It really isn't about the yahoos in the cast. The state pays the producers (not the cast) a percentage of cast salaries. That would be true whether the show is Duck Dynasty or Interior Design Dynasty.

I'm not a fan of gov subsidies in general. From what I've seen they seldom produce the projected benefits.

So you are ok with the handouts unless it has to do with a family that you don't agree with. You have probably never even watched the show.

I watched it for 5 minutes once, it was about some fat guy with a beard going out on a date and his family was trying to make him dress up and he didn't care to. It was pretty obviously scripted, and not well written. Didn't find it entertaining.

And my only complaint about this is that the hypocrisy of the people who are against govt. handouts being okay with certain handouts as long as they benefit from it in some way.
