This year, I think we have the ingredients of a legitimate final four team.

Seeding and matchups mean everything though. IMO, we caught a bit of a break with the matchups in 2012 and 2013.

However, our skill and talent level and experience give us an edge in a lot of matchups that we didn't have the last three years. Also, there doesn't appear to be one team that is dominant to the level of the 2012 UK team.

What were your thoughts during the Belmont game last week? Did you feel this way watching that game?

If we had our complete roster from day 1, we would be ranked #1 and gellin' like Magellan. Hell, we were 4 points away from being undefeated as it is while playing the #7 SOS running with only 5 scholarship players for a significant stretch. After we get a few games under our belt playing with the full roster (including C-Walk), we'll be a like freight train at full speed that nobody wants to be in the path of.

I think the number is 9 points from being undefeated. But then again, we are also 12 points from having 5 losses, so I think our specific W/L record isn't indicative of all that much at this point. We've played every good team close and blown out every bad team.

No bigger than FSU and we out rebounded them. Don't sell us short.

To your point, we are about a month behind in "chemistry" due to all the personnel issues to start the season. Hell, we had more suspensions and injuries to fill two seasons. Hill and Wilbekin are finally practicing together for the first time. Walker is a couple of weeks into practice. D. Walker is now back in the rotation. We are far from reaching our potential. That is the exciting part.

Respectfully disagree. Where exactly is last years team better than this year?

    Prather 2013 > Boynton 2012 > Prather 2012
Finney-Smith = Erik Murphy (conservative estimate)
    Young 2013 > Young 2012
    Wilbekin 2013 > Wilbekin 2012
    Frazier 2013 > Frazier 2012
    Hill > Rosario
    D. Walker
    C. Walker

I would take this team over last years team right now. Defense and athleticism destroyed last years team. If the 3's weren't falling, game over. I am really looking forward to the development of this years team.

I agree with a lot of what I read. It's fun to speculate how well the Gators'll do in the ncaa tourney, but let's first worry about conference play and the sec tourney. As far as Walker goes, whatever he gives the Gators will be a plus. Free throws shooting definitely makes me nervous, except when Prather shoots them. I am impressed how well the Gators have played through the suspensions, injuries and the ongoing (and thankfully over with) situation with Harris and having that over the program's head.

Finally, one thing I know for sure is that I am so happy that Billy D. is the Gators coach. No offense to other Gator coaches, but he's the best Gator coach on campus! I could go on and on about that, though!

I could make a few criticism of your comparisons, (e.g. Frazier 14 should be compared to Boynton 13; I would certainly go with Murphy over Finney-Smith), but more importantly I think that the exercise misses some important variation regarding how well the players play together. If we take your pairwise lineup based approach, then we can already give UK the SEC and national titles, but clearly there is more to it.

If we instead take another approach, looking at results of games, the fact is that last year's team played better basketball (so far). They annihilated teams, beating their non-conference opponents by an average of 20 ppg. This year's team has beaten it's foes by an also impressive, but not comparable, 13 ppg. By this time last year, the team had already taken a hold of the #1 KenPom rating. Their defense was insane, giving up only 0.82 pts/poss for much of the year (they finished with 0.87). This year's team is again giving up a respectable, but not comparable, 0.93.

I agree with most that this team's ceiling is extremely high, but they just have some work to do to get there. If this mythical game happened today, last year's team would be the Vegas favorite. Nothing against this year's team, but last year's team was just a rare treat.

Saying something like the Gators won't make it to the Final Four without Walker is just plain Silly.

Now, saying that about Wilbekin, Prather or Young makes a lot more sense, but even then, basketball performance/success is a highly unpredictable phenomenon. I mean, even if Jesus, or Mohammed, or the Buddha were playing for the Gators it would not guarantee a Final Four, nor would the current Brad Beal, Udonis Haslem, or Al Horford.

Basketball is simply too streaky/spurty to really know what is going to happen.

Actually, if Jesus was playing for the Gators, I feel confident we would be a Final Four lock.;)

Was that him on the bench with the multiple lip-print tattoos on the neck?

If so he's already made my jaw drop.

I dunno man. I think he needs to be more physical in the paint for us to make a serious run. He just doesn't have that mean-streak like his dad.

But he would be perfect from the field and free throw line.

Even though we have 4 seniors, I see this team has more upside, given the potential of both Walkers and Hill. By March, this will be a very dangerous team that won't sneak up on anyone.

I believe the same, but you just never know until you see it, so I am just trying to tamper my own expectations until we see this uber dangerous team evolve with our own eyes.
