True, but we should stop that confusion anytime we see it, IMHO.

Damn, if this could have waited another couple of weeks, the NAACP would have honored Al Sharpton, and Donald Sterling, a black and white racist in the same ceremony.
This proves that NAACP is not a biased organization.

Hearing all these tapes again on ESPN. Just seems so unreal to me that a guy who owns a pro sports franchise would spew so much hate against those that play so hard to ensure that he gets a very good income from it.

Sterling made hundred's of millions, most owners gain hardly any actual profit outside of the NFL. It is a terrible investment compared to other businesses. Considering a few years ago they actually locked out the NBA because they were losing so much money. The new revenue may have helped some taking some teams out of the red, but some like the Bobcats lose over 20 million a year until this year when they finally won some games. With how popular sports are, and how much ownership now cost, it's not an investment for "profit margin". It's a child hood dream that every man I've ever met has that they can do. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think every rich white person is a racist and I think it's absurd you are actually implying rich white people are automatically racist like it kind of seems. Calling NBA owners slave owners is absurd and completely wrong. I have met Orlando's owner Devos and he is one of the nicest people you will met, and I highly doubt he thinks of his players as slaves picking his cotton.

Understand why at first I was kind of confused on this. Owns an NBA team, African American GF, about to receive a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP. There is a fair reason for me to have been hesitant. The girl that released the tape has changed her name multiple times escaping trouble, is in a current law suit for Embezzlement. There are a lot of reasons to wait for an investigation to play out here too. It's almost too shocking to be real. It's like a Bishop in the Church being Atheist behind closed doors. His past history which I read about just today because before today it didn't matter revealed he has had issues, so after reading all that I feel it's most likely him. But the reasons above were why I originally was hesitant if that makes sense.

On the positive side (pun intended), he told his girlfriend that it was okay for her to sleep with Magic Johnson, who has HIV. How unprejudiced can you get?

He is not an idiotic....I suspect very clever and shrewd to be so rich. He is a FOOL. Lacking wisdom and a heart for others.

He has a "right" to say stupid, foolish statements like he did. As does Charles Barkley, Al Sharpton, Jessie (Hymie) Jackson. But should he be punished? Or just left to stew in his pot of foolishness.

The NAACP would honor him for the money he has given to the Dem Party....give money, get award.

certainly these are dumb words from sterling, but I doubt many of us would want comments spoken when we are unhappy with our boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife to be made public, as many of us would also sound like idiots...

I see a lot of conservative references to how Sterling is some big Democratic donor. Any data or examples of this?

Being a Dem and being rich doesnt equate to being a big Dem donor. And even so, there is also a difference between dontaing to the NAACP and Dem party/candidates, which this guy doesnt appear to do very often and when he does, it's not much.

Bill's post was the only one I saw indicating (incorrectly) that he is a big Dem donor.

Absolutely agree with you about Sterling, and he has a wife and a girl friend and he is no looker.
But this was the lead in to Meet The Press with Bryant Gumbel, The Rev. Al and the NAACP President .No wonder its rankings have tanked .

Bingo where is the outrage with the Naacp? It appears this guy shoulkd have been recieving a lifetime racist achievement, yet there is the Naacp recognising him. If this doesn't prove what they are about you need to take off your blinders!!!!

While the NAACP should withdraw the award, if the idea is that being racist and also doing positive things for minorities are mutually exclusive things, then that is clearly false, especially given most of American history.

I think that there is more in play here than just the obvious racial issue.

A lot of these kind of rich guys with young girlfriends have an arrangement with them--financial and personal. They know these girls are going to be out at clubs doing God knows what after they go to bed at 7:30 PM.

    He likely just didn't want
    Shocker.
