Personally, he's one of my favorite corners we've ever had... it's a shame that he was kicked off the team over something so dumb... I understand why it was done at the time, given the locker room issues we were having... but the guy was and is such an amazing player... arguably our best corner ever...

Should the university cut the guy some slack and do you guys consider him a Gator for life? After all, he was here 3/4 years and probably would have graduated here had we given him the opportunity... I also thought he had the ability to go pro early... so it's almost like we can just pretend he spent 2011 on an NFL bench instead of another university. :D

    Do what you feel OP.

After screwing up his second and third chances, I consider him something other than a Gator for Life.

Honest question: would people consider him a Gator for life if he wasn't successful in the NFL? The cynic in me thinks I know the most common answer...

I don't follow the NFL one bit. Haven't watched a game since Tebow was in Denver.

I loved him in college... and I think enough people will say the same....

Similar deal with Grier... I get why (not really in Grier's case:D... we desperately needed him to stay) but I really wish we kept him...

How many Gator greats have been suspended or gotten into trouble off the field? Way too many to excommunicate a guy who just couldn't stay off the weed.

I use one of two qualifiers to be considered a "Gator for Life":
    1. Earned a diploma from the University of Florida
    2. Entered the NFL draft after declaring as a University of Florida student
I like Janoris Jenkins, and I do consider him a former Gator, but not a Gator for Life. My personal assessment is not based on his success in the NFL, but based on a diploma or status before declaring for the draft.

He’s still a Gator in my book, but I don’t hold him with the same high esteem that I hold such players as Jarred Davis, Jon Bullard and of course Tim Tebow. Players with bright futures who were also team leaders, doing things the right way and who came back for their senior seasons to give everything they had for UF. Just my opinion.

Is Gator-for-Life an official title or something? Seems like an arbitrary title with arbitrary requirements.

I think the important question is "does Janoris consider himself a Gator for life?"

Not the same at all. Brock chose to transfer to a hated, in-state rival. Then stuck his finger in zooks eye by coming back from 30+ points down to beat us. And was an arrogant ass hat the entire time.

    Bad choice imo.

Jenkins got kicked of team, thought he was bigger than the program, asked WM if he knew who he was, after WM got on to him.. All Brock did was show us zook was a terrible HC

I do. He was an incredible Gator. His crime was something that won't be a crime in 10 years and shouldn't be one now. its a plant.

I completely understand the line of thought on marijuana, but rules are rules, and in a team sport all the players must make sacrifices for the team. Janoris chose to put his needs above the team's. This does not make him an evil person or not worthy of being mentioned in Gator history; however, since he was kicked off the team before earning a diploma and he was not a UF student when he declared for the NFL, it would be hard to brag about him as a Gator. He would not likely declare that he is from the University of Florida in those NFL introduction snippets.

On a side note, I do remember him playing in collegiate all-star games with both a North Alabama and a Florida decal on his helmet.
