They're coming from track and field news. The updated the new form charts yesterday.

Keep in mind track and field is the sport where a misstep, a dropped baton, or an extraordinary performance can change things in an instant.

Stanford and others can count fencing as a men's sport:

Since the men have more possible sports in which to score, fencing and skiing will initially be counted in the women's tally. However, these sports can be switched into the men's tally if the women score in more than their permissible number of sports. This scoring will be determined by the NACDA office so as to give the institution the most points possible.

Still, we do have a shot.

By my calculations, here are the remaining points possible for us & them (using Iowa's #s for T&F):
I don't think we are the favorites at this point, but we have a decent chance if baseball can make at least the regional final (+25 points). Then it would probably all come down to track & field, where we'd need to finish well and have Stanford's men get shut out.

    Pretty exciting stuff.

Our golf is final. We finished 25th and that is 49 points.

According the Stanford boards--they finished 37th and that gets them 37.

They are also saying UCLA is in the mix possibly.

Austin Peed on hopes to gain in baseball. How many points did the Louisville football loss cost us?

Poster on Stanford message board says they win by less than 20. Have not seen confirmation.

Cap one men is also close. Don't think we win it unless an appeal gets TAM a total DQ in the 4 x 4. Which would drop them to second and give us the title outright.

If those numbers are right and it's less than 20, the men's tennis loss to Denver would have gotten us the title.

I don't know how Cap one works but we should get full points from today's national championship in track. We are the champion.

I wonder if that Stanford poster knows we get 100 from men's track in the Director's Cup. We were so far out of it before the day started no one was talking about us.

Yes it was calculated after the meet finished.

Yes we will get great credit in cap one but a & m was ahead of us before the meet.

Sucks that we had to have a down year in baseball this season. That probably would have pushed us over the top.

So close! And so many what ifs, baseball and men's tennis perhaps being most obvious.

Most amazing though might be that had Stanford not upset our #1 women's tennis team in the NCAA semis, we would've won. In retrospect, it's kind of fitting for the cup to come down to that considering the history of the two programs in that sport.

We need UCLA to not win the CWS to finish 2nd. If they win the CWS we finish third in the cup. If they finish second or lower--we finish 2nd in the cup.

Also, the sow is currently in 14th. They should finish higher when baseball is added and the Stanford margin of victory will fall to 16.5 points.

So if we finish 2nd or 3 rd do you seriously give a rats azz. ? What is your obsession here/ what difference does it make if we even won the damn thing? Do we get one of the bumper stickers with "Were # 1 in the directors cup" ?

You are seriously trying to figure this out if we would finish 1 or 2.. Being from Iowa I thought you would have more sensible things to think about. I appreciate your dedication but geeze.

First of all I am not from Iowa. I live here now. Born and raised a Gator in Palatka.

Secondly, some people, including me, like to the totality of domination that the Gators bring to the world of sports. There are very few athletic programs in the country that come close to what our department does year in and out. It needs to be recognized and applauded.

Third, I prefer positive outlooks on life and celebrate what the men and women who wear the orange and blue accomplish. Not look at ways to nitpick and condemn them and the other fans.
